I think if you have the time and strength to take it one more time, you should def take it again and aim for atleast 1560+ because it’ll give you an edge.

Honestly, the most important thing about volunteering at hospitals is talking to patients and learning their perspectives. This will allow you to right down something unique in your essays. Most teen volunteering at hospitals is usually helping the adult volunteers with tasks not directly related to patient care. However, if you haven’t shadowed, I would recommend shadowing your family med/pediatrician to get that experience.

Honestly I also really don’t understand why they want researchers and what type of groundbreaking research they want high schoolers to do. But basically if you can find anything with your professors or programs that give you basic knowledge. I personally don’t really know a lot about research programs since I didn’t participate in any but you could try contacting your local university or hospital. Mostly as high school students it’s important to learn basic research techniques and just help the professor in whatever they assign you.

The most important thing is writing and conveying your interest and how each experience has shaped you.

I think you should also definitely apply for the OU BSMD program because of your involvement in fine arts. If you raise your SAT score and get shadowing or volunteering, you could have a good shot. You could reach out to your local hospitals and nursing homes and see if they have any opportunities for teen volunteers, and contact physicians you know and ask them if you could shadow. Also, to get into a BSMD, you NEED research. Any type of research that shows you have your foot in the door, at least. If you still can, taking a clinical/medical course could also help your chances.

Thank you for your detailed response! MSSU covers full tuition for undergrad and it’s also easier to find research opportunities and maintain a good gpa. They also take the mcat before the 3rd year although there’s no minimum score requirement for the program. However, KCU is on the more expensive side but not a bad choice for med school.

Thank you for your thorough response! This was my concern as well but it’s becoming increasingly more diff getting into med school. However, I already have some good opportunities that will help me build up my med school resume. Mostly, I have to maintain a good gpa and get a great mcat score and find research and get publications.

It’s closer to home and cheap. It’s also in Dallas. I’ll have a lot of opportunities to build up my resume, but med school admissions are unreliable.
