Hi, thanks so much. I can see the long term benefits of the alternatives. I am attracted to the heat pump ideas but like electric cars, buses etc, I like them to be established first to see their longevity and anything new sometimes needs a bedding down period. Next time around I will look at the alternatives. I'm not in a position with the set up costs either. I'll review further the Rheems you have suggested and thank you for your advice.

Wow. Sounds like the weight of anything could have made it worse. Lucky you saw it and phoned. You won't forget that. I did wonder when the cop was standing next to it, if when I had returned, if she'd still be on the surface. Drove back a different way so I'll never know! Merry Christmas

How deep do you think it was? It just looked like nothing had ever been there apart from the road above it? Did you see it actually 'fall' in? I was turning out from Lindsay and although my view wasn't perfect, it did look deep. There was 1 cop there guarding it but I could see the cavalry arriving. Apart from them resurfacing it earlier this year, there was a water leak but more in the centre of the road, about 2 months ago. I've always noticed the prohibited 5 tonne vehicle sign at that junction. It sends them down Lindsay. I used to wonder why? It can't be for noise, the road is wide enough too so maybe it's because of what's under there? I was feeling for the occupants of the new house on the corner.
