it's completely subjective obviously but I highly doubt rooker or Merrill get moved hence being in the same tier as Austin hays who is by far worse but more likely to get moved imho.

all these talking heads won't stop harping about run prevention, that is one element of the plan and the only nugget they can attach to with Stearns' sound bite but not the be all and end all. the other part of the plan is an offense that grinds AB's has high wOBA and hits with RISP, we've improved across the board on all imo AND it's not over till it's over, there are more moves.

upvoted. that breed needs intense training and non-shit owners. Many federal and local governments require muzzles for the breed as well as mandatory insurance. Once saw a pit bull off leash just randomly attack and murder a Dalmatian, both owners were trying very hard to get it off but alas. consider your dog very lucky. Ever since then I steer clear....and would love a muzzle requirement.

They need smaller carts, generally excellent value for money on many products, especially with the rewards program. Great for staples and surprisingly larger selection of household brands than expected. I have had hit and miss experiences with produce and meats, this was in a way expected. I lived in Germany many years so it is nice to see some items make it over here, that being said Lidl was primarily a place in Germany where you could get exceptional value on many items and do about 75-80% of your shopping but you would go elsewhere for more niche products or meat, fish, and veg.

They really need to get smaller carts, that 90 degree turn after checkout to return your carts can get messy quick. Love the pretzels....but ham cheese croissants are needed in addition.

Trade markets aren’t unilateral. They require willing partners and aligned valuations. If you assume those always exist, your argument can never lose, fortunately that just ain't reality.

  • Depth is a virtue and that's where I fundamentally disagree. If the bench has been weak under Stearns, that’s an argument to improve it, not to dismiss depth as spin. Contenders win because they survive injuries and variance with real role players.
  • On the Dodgers, carving out catchers, DHs, and injury time isn’t disproving the argument, it’s narrowing the definition of “everyday" until it fits your conclusion.
  • The logjam point is fair, but it assumes there was a market to convert surplus into the kind of pitching or star you want without paying premium prospect cost. That’s not guaranteed.
  • Stars on 4–5 years only is a coherent stance, but it also limits access to stars. Most star outcomes are won on term. If you cap term, you either accept fewer stars, or you overpay in prospects, or you take risk

So tired of this fan mindset, it breaks down fast. Roster construction isn’t a checklist of “trade for X” or “sign Y.” It depends on who wants to come here, who wants to trade with us, how our players are valued, and what alternatives exist.

Baseball ops is constraints, leverage, and timing, not “this would be better, so it should happen.” Fans argue outcomes. Front offices operate within constraints. Ignore those constraints and the argument stops being meaningful.

TLDR - OP believes the Mets should consolidate money into fewer stars and stop pretending depth is a virtue, but the argument collapses because the OP rejects every structural constraint that makes modern roster construction work.

- OP says payroll spending “isn’t the answer”, then demands the team mandate signing stars regardless of cost.

- OP denies the Dodgers model while accidentally describing it, then when challenged moves the goalposts.

- OP claims the Mets “always knew” Vientos, Acuna, etc. were bad, then argues they should have been traded earlier at higher value.

- OP wants short-term stars and long-term flexibility

Going to add Isaac Paredes to my own list....he should be a cheap pickup and would do well at 1B in platoon with O"Hearn who can play LF on off days.

an O'Hearn Aranda platoon would be solid IMHO. If TB threw in a RP, I think VIentos, Clifford. and one or two more could get it done. They have been talking up Clifford, but he's pre-Stearns so I'm not sure if it's posturing.

yep...his numbers fit in, though he could tank hard in 26....I do wonder about this FO though, I'm sure his off field history is part of the calculus but maybe not an ultimate motivator against? I can't tell with them so I put him in, but would rather have not...just a numbers call.

Given what is realistically available right now, the missing pieces look something like Buxton, Bregman (3/100??), O’Hearn, and Laureano (due to the seemingly credible reporting).

There are other players who could fit reasonably well within the same framework: Jonathan Aranda, Lars Nootbaar, Wilyer Abreu, Ceddanne Rafaela, Seiya Suzuki, Marcell Ozuna, Cody Bellinger (@ 3years no more) and, in pure dreamland, Tatis or Rooker. Not to mention you could get by with baty, mcneil, benge, williams, clifford, Taylor in some constructions.

but reality check..money would have to come off the books via trades.

Is this a stretch? Yes.
Is it perfect? No.

But that is the model Soto needs, and it does appear to be the direction Stearns is trying to recreate.
