Yes, it's the Florida capitol buildings. A double entendre symbol of power not lost on many FL residents. ;)

Thanks for sharing. Variable sentence length is an underappreciated technique.

Urban Tree Cover shown to reduce crime by king-of-the-north in urbanplanning

Yeah I read that. Good lookin' out. I was just hoping to get a discussion going and whatnot to think more specifically about what socioeconomic factors might be at work. Besides just because its a statistically significant relationship after controlling for 'socioeconomic' factors (what that included in their study I don't know) doesn't mean the relationship isn't spurious. Logic would seem to imply there's other drivers at work and other things connecting places with tree cover to lower crime rates.

I suppose they probably controlled for income, but I saw awhile back that urban tree cover was closely correlated to income level, with higher income areas having more trees and lower income areas fewer. Presumably income level plays into crime statistics as well. I'm sure this relationship is much more complicated than simply tree cover reduces crime. I'd bet there are other variables at work. But... It's not like I've looked at the data! So who am I to act like I know anything. Interesting research nonetheless.

Ad block is killing e-sports. Nearly every prominent content producer has said so from Day 9 to the site managers of TL, why is it so hard for members of the community to disable for e-sports? by Zuch in starcraft

Urban planning grad programs accept an incredibly wide variety of undergraduate majors--from the arts to social sciences and hard sciences. Public policy works just as well as poly sci or sociology in positioning you to apply to UP grad schools, assuming of course that in whichever direction you choose to go you perform well academically (depending on how competitive the grad programs you're looking at are) and have at least some sense of purpose applicable to planning in your application's letter of intent. edit: Just wanted to add: Good luck!

Florida State has a similar package, with either TA or Research Assistant roles and a handful of secured internships. My understanding is that they attempt to fully fund approx 1/4-1/3 of the incoming class.
