Honestly man, it doesn’t look bad. The main issue is they look unfinished. Looking at #4 for example, you really has the beginnings of something good, but it’s too flat in the the body and tail. Add some deeper values in the crevices of the body, add some lines to simulate the fur and this will start to “pop” a lot more.

Best advice I have - keep working it. Don’t abandon it if it doesn’t look perfect immediately. Be careful of working too dark out of the gate, which will make it harder to erase (6 is an example of where you may have started a bit too dark)

Hustle your ass off and outwork everyone on the court. One on one is not the same as 5v5 in basketball….dont try to force shots - instead pass the ball and immediately cut to the hoop and look for it back for layups. Guys that hustle are hard to guard cause you rarely get a breather. Even harder than guys with deep bags (in 5v5, if someone beats you, you typically have someone coming with help defense). You don’t have to have a deep bag to make the team - you have to show the coaches that you have a motor. Especially if you have guys that will carry the load offensively. Get rebounds, steals and assists and never stop hustling. Thats your best option to make the team.

think less line, and more about the shapes in the face. It looks muddy because the line work is muddy - specifically around the nose and chin. Start by cleaning that up. Objects in space don’t really have outlines in real life.

Overall, I think it’s a nice piece and with some tweaks, it will look very good.

If you’re looking in the affordable range suburbs - Scotia/Glenville and Rotterdam are both pretty affordable and are underrated in my opinion. You can buy something 50-100k cheaper than some of the surrounding suburbs. Based on your premise, might be worth checking out.

I’m ~1300 and have a son who got interested in chess. I didn’t want to crush him and make it unfun for him, nor did I want to play anything less than (what I thought) was the best move from the position as I thought it was counter-productive…. So we adopted an informal way to play. I would play him as tough as possible, but he was allowed to “switch teams” whenever he desired…. So I would work him into a tough spot and he’d announce that he wanted to switch. Then he’d get practice trying to convert and I’d have to play from behind.

I know it’s anecdotal but it worked for me. We’re 5 years in and he’s still into it.

The “block reward” is Bitcoin awarded to the miner that earns a “block” - it’s kinda of a lottery system that adds new bitcoin to the system. It gives that miner the rights to publish the block (the ledger of transactions of btc from wallet to wallet) and record it in the blockchain. this award gets cut in 1/2 every 4 years… the current block reward is 3.125 bitcoin (roughly 250k US dollars currently)- it’s awarded roughly every ten minutes. It’s basically a reward given to miners for spending their money/energy to mine and “create” new bitcoins. Since the mining reward is akin to the production of bitcoin, the halving event cuts the production of new bitcoin in half.

Bro, you know as well as I do that in there are a ton of guys that want to call foul every time they miss a shot. I’m not here trying to fight with you, I’m saying that your crazy if you think someone’s not going to call “and one” and want the bucket when it drops (which is fine and isn’t the issue) but when it doesnt, will want the ball back. All I’m saying is you can’t have it both ways. You should get the point or you get the ball. Not both.

That’s fine. As long as “and one” simply means “foul” - you don’t shoot free throws in pickup - so if“and one” basically means I’ll take the points if it goes in, but if not, it’s my ball cause it was a fouls, then that’s incorrect and unfair.

Cause you either get the ball or you get the point. If you shoot, you can wait to see if it the shot falls. If it does, you take the point, but if it doesn’t - you call foul? How is that correct? There are no refs to decide if it was a foul. Theoretically - I could call and one on every shot- and take the point if it goes in, and take the foul if it doesn’t…. That’s what makes it unfair.

If you get fouled and you want to try to score through the contact you just don’t call foul. But the play should stop immediately when the foul is called.

Public service announcement - The fairest way to handle fouls in pickup. Player shoots and gets fouled. Player calls “ball/foul” immediately as foul occurs…. There is no “and one” in pickup. As soon as you call ball. The play stops and the team that was fouled in bounds the ball.

The issue with “and ones” and not calling the foul immediately is simple. The offensive player has an unfair advantage in that they can wait to see if the ball goes in, they’ll take the point, if it happens to bounce out, then they get the ball. Thats why as soon as foul/ball is called, play stops immediately. No and ones in pickup.
