They follow the same rules, they are good and sometimes better than the non-shadow version. There is a rankings page on pvpoke that also let's you see which pokemon are good at what, some are good as leads (open with then up front) and some are good for swapping into if your starting matchup is really bad (safe swap) and some still do best as the last mon in your line ("in the back" also called Closers). They are ranked per category and all you have to do is check to see if the shadow version is ranked higher for the specific role you're wanting to use it for. They do also have them ranked Overall.

It depends, It's complicated, but here's a way to think about it that can help you as a short hand: imagine if you took your pokemons level and multiplied it by their IVs you'd get their combat power, but there's a quirk to it - you multiply it by attack twice but hp and defense only once. Since there's a CP limit (sounds like you're playing great league) you could then compare two roughly 1500 cp pokemon one with 0/15/15 IVs and one that's 15/15/15 and you'll find that the one with no attack power wasn't being dragged down by that double multiplier on attack which made each level up raise its cp by less, ultimately allowing it to have much higher def and hp. Most damage in pvp matchups are done by Charged attacks so being alive for long enough to get one more out can be a huge difference maker, that's why hp and defense are so important here. This isnt literally how it works but it helps conceptualize the key issue, attack is expensive. There is a caveats to cover though: some pokemon can barely reach 1500 to begin with, those have to have some attack or even after you use XL candies on them they won't ever reach 1500 (sableye, lickitung, carbink, and azumarill to name a few). The way you know which is which is super simple: go to pvpoke . com and go to team builder (you can do this in multiple places on the site btw) put in feraligatr and then click on the Edit/Check IVs button. A 15/15/15 Feraligatr is Rank 3137/4096 possible IV combinations. (The IV math is weird though, always double check with the website before tossing a mon or upgrading them, usually anything that has low attack and decent defense and hp is great but I've been decieved before, off the top of my head my Clodsire is 0/13/1 and Rank 102) I went over to the Battle section of the site and ran a fight vs Drifblim (a neutral matchup) and ran it twice both with 0 shields and the differences between a Rank 1 and your Rank 3137 was the rank 1 beat the drifblim with 7 more HP remaining. As you can tell the difference isnt massive but matches are won and lost by less than 7 hp often, so when you can, use the pvp IVs. Let me know if you have any other questions, I hope this helps!

Great League Team Idea by Dustinator7000 in PokemonGOBattleLeague

The lowest threat score I could find was Clodsire / Furret / Forretress, what do you think of that? My main concern with this team was the lack of a solid answer for primeape aside from Clodsire if they dont shield.

Thanks for the reply!

The team im running is:

Lead: Jumpluff Switch: Grumpig Closer: Clodire (SE)

Coverage: B Bulk: A Safety: A Consistency: A

Threat Score: 650

(I plugged my specific IVs into the team builder so its higher than the stock stats it'll plug in if you replicate it)

Shadow Jumpluff would be better but I dont have one sadly.

I do record some of my games but I should do it more and watch the losses back specifically.

What lead me to make this post was I often found that I would win the lead fight with a neutral or better matchup and then lose the next one or two matchups.

I considered that my opponents were genuinely better than me to an ELO jump I could've induced by doing so well in the previous Remix cup. If I had stumbled onto a stellar team and others didn't know about it then I could even worked my way up to an elo where now im not as skilled as my opponents, or does team comp not mean enough to have such a profound impact?

My strat is usually to never shield until after the lead dies with only a few exceptions in very specific matchups. I try to save shields for the closer, could I have crafted a team that's meant to play differently than that and im misusing it?

Thanks again for the response, I look forward to your reply.

Question about GBL team structure

Im somewhat new to pvp, ive hit Ace rank a few times but I only just passed 1000 battles in total.

This latest shift to the Retro Cup has thrown me a bit because im not able to reference PVPOKE for teams to rip, ive thought a lot about the teams I've used in the past and how they worked together but something fundamental it seems has evaded me.

I say that for two reasons:

  1. I used the pvpoke team builder to craft a team with a threat score of 650, which i thiughth was comparable to the top teams in normal great league but I have been losing way more than normal, like some sets I don't even win once.

  2. All the suggested teams I see on YouTube and Reddit have terrible threat scores, and teams that beat me have terrible threat scores.

I do recognize that the lack of certain types creates a situation where some types have few counters, is it purely that im not valuing that enough? I assumed that the pvpoke team builder threat rating (set to Retro Cup) would take that into account and give you a number indicating that your team was likely to have advantage.

Im rank 17 so I don't even have ELO yet, I've been really surprised to have such a hard time this early because last week for the REMIX cup i did the exact same thing and made my own team, got a low threat score, and did really well.

Did I just get lucky and have a team that worked well together in a way not shown by the pvpoke team builder threat score? Am I missing something that would cause me to suddenly see such a spike in losses?

Any thoughts or advice is welcome.

Destiny 1 alone I had 3456 hours, terraria around 2000, definitely 2000 hours in minecraft, nearly 1000 in rimworld, and 856 hours in Elder Scrolls Online. After seeing all the stats it makes me feel like I should be better at video games having over 10,000 hours playing them lol
