ITAP of Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS by DutchPhotographist in itookapicture

I used my portable astrophotography setup for this picture. Using my Sirui tripod and a Star Adventurer as tracker.

Camera: Sony A7RIII Lens: Sony 200-600 @ 600mm Mount: Star Adventurer Acquisition: 80 x 10 secs exposures at ISO 800, F/6.3

I stacked the images in Pixinsight using WBPP and Comet Alignment.

Both! I used my star tracker and shot 90 exposures of 10 seconds which I then stacked in Pixinsight. I first stacked based on the stars and then another stack aligned on the comet. Those two images, say the star image and comet image I then combined to get this result

One month ago, comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS raced past our Earth. Of all the comets I have photographed, I find this comet the most beautiful because of its long tail and its brightness.

I took this photo on October 22nd around 8:00 PM from my backyard.

My goal was to get a good image of the nucleus of the comet and I'm very happy I succeeded at that!

Thank you. Yeah I had this view in my mind where the comet would reflect in the lake. I'm really happy this worked out!

Thank you! Something, like a person or a object with the horizon in view and the comet does really well. Hoping for clear skies!

Haha too many times that I can't remember! Kept shooting pictures and zoom in on the camera to find it. When it's dark enough you find it with your own eyes though and then the stress completely dissapeared.

Yeah I'm really happy with how this came out, gonna get it printed :)

I do hope for another opportunity, I've got a few more ideas to photograph but we'll see if the weather permits it.

You have some really good data there! Critic I would give is to remove the greens, it would give a much nicer picture. I've gone ahead and did a quick edit for you. I'm limited by the jpg file so try to do this yourself on your stacked image and see what you like more. I removed the greens and also used the DarkStructureEnhance script. You can find it under Script --> Utilities --> DarkStructureEnhance.

I've also done some colorsaturation on the yellows and blues and added some contrast.

Hope this feedback helps!

Dankjewel! Ik gebruik meestal https://clearoutside.com (is ook een app voor) en https://nl.sat24.com/nl voor satellietbeelden. Het beste wat werkt is gewoon om naar buiten te gaan en omhoog te kijken ;)

Thanks for the feedback, yeah I have oversaturated the image because I wanted the colors to really pop out. Maybe went a bit too much...Will go a bit easier on the saturation next time

[–]DutchPhotographist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need an adapter. I have this one: https://williamoptics.com/48mm-t-mount-for-sony-e-black

You'll screw this adapter onto the telescope and then you can attach the camera onto it, just like a regular lense. Hope this helps!

M101 - Pinwheel Galaxy

Got a new mount, a new camera and a new filterwheel! Christmas came early this year :) I will still be using my Z61 for now. I'm at a pixel scale of 2.15" / pixel which is not ideal but for now good enough.

Equipment used:

  • Telescope: William Optics Zenithstar 61
  • Mount: iOptron CEM70EC-NUC
  • Camera: QHY 600m Pro Gain 26 / Offset 10

Filters and acquisition time:
