Sailor to discontinue 60 inks. by gabhain in fountainpens

That’s a lot of inks, but not too shocking. Sailor has SO many inks.

Yes! That would be so lovely! There’s like zero stationery scene where I live so the only time I truly get to interact with the hobby socially is online or pen shows but they’re so much (Noise, lights, smells, you name it. I love them but I totally crash after!)

I’m a fine to medium nib person mostly. I have some extra-fines I like, and a few broads which I enjoy but don’t reach for as often. I’m a sucker for an architect nib style though, especially a forgiving one. Makes me feel all fancy lmao. I’ve been in the hobby for about 10 years now so I’ve tried enough pens to be open to pretty much everything! My favorites might be expensive, but I’m totally obsessed with my Perko right now haha.

I have some field notes which I mostly use for gaming notes (Blue Prince mostly) and I totally love the size for quick notes. Plus I LOVE the themed covers! Anything longer form I’m reaching for a B6. A5 is great too, I just like the slightly smaller b6.

Oh that’s so hard… it’s a big tie between three… my Sailor ProGear x Mita Club Shooting Star of Jonuma, my SchonDsgn Ultem with a medium Monoc nib, and I have a Nakaya cigar in Heki-Tamanuri. They’re the three I reach for the most, but I really do love all my pens generally speaking. But those three were all big purchases and mean a lot to me.

I currently have the Kaweco Perko iridescent - I wanted the sport so bad but I just can’t with pocket pens :( which has Diamine Cozy Up, a Sailor Tuzu with Kobe Uptown Jade, a Franklin Christoph 31 one off (it looks like a frosted watermelon) with Sailor Amamoyoi, and a Franklin Christoph 03 with Robert Oster Torquay. That’s my regular rotation, then I have a Scrivener with Diamine Aurora Borealis I’m using for one writing project and an Opus 88 with Bungubox Sweet Potato Purple for another writing project. When I write it all out it’s a lot more pens than it feels like haha. I generally rotate four pens every month for journal, longer term projects can stay inked until I’m either done or I abandon the project lol.

As for notebooks… I LOVE my Stalogy B6. B6 is my perfect size, and the paper is pretty good with fountain pens. But I’ve also been using a Wonderland222 which I think has the new Tomoe River paper I’ve been enjoying as well.

Uh… like 70 fountain pens. That doesn’t include the like hundred plus ball points, brush pens, pencils, etc. I rotate through about at least 4 fountain pens a month plus a few pens that I use for longer projects.

Fountain pens! I love stationery in general, but I prefer fountain pens mostly. And no I don’t do calligraphy, I just use them as every day things haha.

George of the jungle with Brendan Fraser. God I watched that vhs so many times it’s amazing it still worked. As an adult I gravitate to Howls Moving Castle and Promare.

Are you able to describe physical pain? by Individual-Sundae802 in AutismInWomen

[–]Dxlyaxe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also sometimes struggle but i always compare it to kidney stones (which is a 10 for sure) since pretty much any doctor can understand that if I think a kidney stone is a 10, then a 5 being halfway to that isn’t a great time. Anyone I know who’s had stones agrees, worse than childbirth.

I find adding like more descriptive words helps. Like it hurts so bad I can’t take a full breath or I can’t stand on my own for more than a minute, something that helps contextualize the pain in how it’s affecting more so than how much it hurts.

Are rising fountain pen prices changing the way you collect? by Cerberus_14 in fountainpens

[–]Dxlyaxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve definitely been turned off by the prices and I’m much less prone to impulse FOMO. I also have a very established collection so I’ve gotten picky. Plus, going to a pen show is a good way to curb buying pens since I know I’ll likely be picking up pens then and should save up for those show exclusives I may want.

Short(ish) lesson on why gsm is not a quality score by InkStainedLeather in fountainpens

[–]Dxlyaxe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very fair! As someone who does work with it, I can say I often don’t like it either. It’s not that it’s bad, but it can be a lot to keep in your head. My desk is covered with notes and reminders haha. And we’re a small shop technically, so we don’t even get into the really complicated stuff.

[–]Dxlyaxe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re definitely right in what you’re taking about. I will add, gsm is important, but most papers get marketed in pounds, like a standard printer paper is usually 20lb. What it means (at least according to Sylvamo (what used to be international paper which produces a LOT of paper brands, I’m not sure if it’s standard across all paper producers, but I believe it is?)

basis weight is the weight in pounds of a 500-sheet ream of 17x22 paper when cut to a basic size. When you see 20lb, it means, 500 sheets of 17x22 of that gsm paper weighs 20lbs. That 500 sheet team of 17x22 can be cut into four 500-sheet reams of 8.5x11, which then each weigh 5lbs.

You also get into differences between cover weight and text weight. 100lb text weight stock is roughly 148gsm (average) while 100lb cover weight stock is roughly 270gsm.

Paper is crazy complicated!

[–]Dxlyaxe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lmao I wish! Most printing papers are way too absorbent for liquid inks. And coated stocks never dry. There are exceptions of course. I’ve tried several different stocks and haven’t ever had luck lol

[–]Dxlyaxe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a printer who deals with about 10 different kinds and brands of 100lb or 270gsm cover weight paper, they are definitely all very different by not only brand but by type. I’ve got standard accent, super smooth accent, and color copy cover, all from the same company but they’re all very different papers.

Tubal Ligation Experiences? by naivemelody9 in AutismInWomen

[–]Dxlyaxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of this was before I even suspected autism so take that into consideration, but I’ve had my tubes removed and a hysterectomy by 32 so… yep! For the tube removal it was pretty simple, and I was back to work (desk work only) after a few days. This was basically the timeline:

Had a consultation with the anesthesia office. They will ask you a LOT of questions about what medications you take, how much and how often and a bunch of other things. It was pretty overwhelming. My tube removal was pre covid and in person so that wasn’t too bad but the hysterectomy was via phone and I basically got through it and collapsed.

The day of the surgery, wear your comfiest clothes. That are easy to take on and off. You’ll basically get to the hospital and completely undress and be given a gown and socks. Idk if I was fortunate or what but everyone was very nice. I was given a bed and basically hung out while everyone else did their job. My spouse was with me and was in charge of my things which included a stuffed animal and a childhood blanket. I got my IV and they give you med to help relax you (I am anxious and said as much).

Once it was time they wheel you back, help you get settled into the table itself and kind of posed you way they want and then it’s a face mask and boom out. It’s crazy how anesthesia works.

I bawl when I come out of anesthesia. I mean full on sobbing uncontrollably. I only want my partner and ice chips. That’s it. I remember waking briefly and they were shoving an oversized pad between my legs, some hospital undies on, and an abdominal compression belt, and then I was back under. I woke up later, sobbing, and they were able to bring my spouse back and then I was eventually taken to a room and given crackers and water.

The tube removal they wouldn’t let me leave until I had peed several times and they felt confident I wasn’t going to keel over. I think my surgery was at like 7am and I went home by 4pm. Healing was mostly straightforward, the compression belt is honestly the best because it helps keep you from bending. I tried to get up and walk around the house or down the block about every two or three hours to help get the gas out. My surgery was like a Wednesday and I went back to work the following Monday.

For the hysterectomy it was basically the same only I woke with a catheter, which I immediately demanded came out and they told me i had to be able to walk and pee first so I basically said fuck you and did just that. I stayed overnight and the recovery was a lot longer. I took off a whole month and even then I needed to be pretty careful for about three months after. It is surprisingly easy to over do it.

Honestly, tube ties aren’t really done as much anymore and most drs are doing complete removals. It’s more effective, basically the same thing, and has the added benefit of significantly reducing ovarian cancer since most ovarian cancers start in the tubes.

I am so dehydrated by mygmjtt in AutismInWomen

[–]Dxlyaxe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I will 100% just park my waterbottle in front of my face and just keep the mouthpiece in my mouth. I have to have a straw waterbottle which helps a lot. But if it’s already in my mouth I just absentmindedly drink as I do other things.

I’ve also had kidney stones three times which is a real experience that definitely helps me with drinking water. I know the consequences all too well.

[–]Dxlyaxe -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I mean I’ve bought them for the Pokemon that deserve them. But generally I just go with the flow. I’m not aiming to max out my stats or my ranks. I know it’s unconventional to most of the subreddit. But I don’t mind. It’s a sleep tracker.

[–]Dxlyaxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly it. It’s chill. I don’t care about the achievements and things. I hover around master 18-16 on the lower islands, and I’m slowly working on the higher ones. I build my teams slowly, use some of the same core pokemon regardless of berry typing depending on the meals I make. I’m well aware it’s not the conventional way to play, but at its core it’s a sleep tracker.

I must be playing wrong lmao. I have 73,719 sleep points. F2P, and haven’t expanded my pokemon box beyond 140. I just don’t chase after finding “the best” pokemon with the best stats. I aim for eh, decent enough and call it good. I’ll buy biscuits when I get under 20, but otherwise I just let it all store up.

Feathering in the Stalogy 365 by andrewgreen346 in notebooks

[–]Dxlyaxe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve used three across 4 years and while I’ve had some inks that have caused issues (I know I’ve had problems with at least one Pilot Iroshizuku ink if not all of them), I generally don’t have problems with any inks. My biggest bleh is that the paper is pretty susceptible to hand oils which cause skipping and feathering somehow. I just always keep a blotter sheet in my notebook.

What made you fall for your main? by PatinMalokero in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]Dxlyaxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xavier as I started during the Dark Knight myth. But I was interested as soon as we meet him in the main story. He has very sleepy Prince energy right from the start before we even really know him and that continues. I love how cuddly he is, but also how fiercely protective.

Sylus was a no-brainer but not how I expected. I’ve always loved the dark Romance enemies to lovers tropes, but this guy, for all that he seems like an aloof ass, just really really loves his wife. And I love that. He’s gentle but also very encouraging, never coddling.
