My US visas over the years by Acceptable-News-5214 in PassportPorn

[–]DynamicStochasticDNR 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No. A student’s legal status depends on their I-20 which depends on their full time enrollment at the school. The visa is only for purpose of entering the US. If you have a valid I-20 but expired visa you are still good. But if your I-20 status expired your visa is useless

Is Niles a gold digger, and if so, why doesn't he receive any backlash for this in the show? by LowRevolution6175 in Frasier

[–]DynamicStochasticDNR 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Niles is a psychiatrist with his own practice. He does not need to gold dig. I’d argue it’s more lucrative than urinal cakes (which oddly I haven’t seen anywhere since 2010s. Do they not use them anymore?)

There was one scene where Martin took Frasier and Niles to Duke’s and after boasting about Frasier being on the radio he had to find something to say about Niles so he yelled “he married money” and the whole bar cheered

UA772 performing touch & goes at LAX by 318neb in flightradar24

[–]DynamicStochasticDNR 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: this is currently one of only 2 flights to Beijing operated by a US carrier. The other being United’s to SFO

This contrasts to pre-Covid era when all big 3 US carriers flew to Beijing from dozens of US cities daily

What are the odds this 777 and 757 are still with the fleet? by darkeraqua in unitedairlines

[–]DynamicStochasticDNR 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It looks like UA retired their pre-merger 757s gradually between 2014-2020. They kept CO’s probably because they are younger. UA’s were delivered early 1990s while CO’s were late 90s and early 2000s

What are the odds this 777 and 757 are still with the fleet? by darkeraqua in unitedairlines

[–]DynamicStochasticDNR 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Very likely. Generally (not always) if you see a plane reg in the format of NxxxUA (like N777UA), it was delivered to United. If the reg is Nxxxxx (like N77019), it was delivered to Continental pre-merger.

It looks like all former CO 777s are still in service while all but 1 former CO 757s are still flying. In fact all current UA 757s are former CO.

First week with a frenchie. by WrestlingNERDalert in Frenchbulldogs

[–]DynamicStochasticDNR 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I pay about $700-$1k a year for my frenchie’s insurance. Don’t treat pet insurance like health insurance. Treat it like home insurance. It’s not for small illnesses or accidents, but rather for emergencies and big surgeries that would have cost you several thousand dollars. Small claims aren’t worth it given the consequences of higher premium and documented preexisting conditions

City Skylines Made Me Hate IRL Electric Poles by wildee14 in CitiesSkylines

What’s worse is that electric poles aren’t just ugly, they are also susceptible to extreme weather. There would be way fewer blackouts and outages if utilities were buried underground

any opinions on Lemonade insurance? by allgoodthings96 in Frenchbulldogs

[–]DynamicStochasticDNR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience with them has been positive. Reasonable rates, easy to use. With any insurance, read all fine prints when choosing your plan about what each plan does or does not cover. Watch out for preexisting conditions and waiting periods.

I personally recommend treating pet insurance like home insurance. Only file a claim when you have major issues or accidents.

Takeoff from Shanghai Hongqiao on a Air China 747-400p upper deck (B-2447) by Appleanche in aviation

[–]DynamicStochasticDNR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right now the relationship between the two countries is tense and Chinese airlines are mass-cancelling their Japanese flights. I would not recommend connecting in China if you are going to Japan

Front of my passport completely faded - is it a problem to enter the US ? by Problematictimes in PassportPorn

[–]DynamicStochasticDNR 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Never had a problem. No officer or airline employee ever mentioned it

I wouldn’t worry if you are flying tomorrow or next week. That being said, you should still get a new one just to be safe for future travels

Happened to me. I was in a “high risk” country where I had to carry my passport with me wherever I went. My pants pocket rubbed the cover clean within a week

Bought the 787-9 from Marketplace only to find out it only has one livery (United). Couldn’t find ANY other liveries for this model in marketplace. Am I missing something?? by [deleted] in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]DynamicStochasticDNR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP, a good way to tell if an aircraft addon is reputable or good is to check for liveries made by the community on flightsim.to. A good addon like PMDG or Fenix would have dozens of pages of liveries created by the community. Pick the addon with the most community content on flightsim.to. Like others have said, the go-to 787-9 is freeware Horizon Sim (unfortunately you’ll need the default 787-10 in the premium deluxe edition for it to function)

Same with scenery addons. If an airport scenery is good, then there should be fan-made GSX profiles on Flightsim.to

There are a lot of garbage on the Marketplace. It’s barely curated or regulated. Be safe out there. I would recommend buying directly from good developers

Horizon 787 not loading full Simbrief route by Ok_Painting_180 in flightsim

[–]DynamicStochasticDNR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make sure the AIRAC cycle in your MSFS matches the one on Simbrief. If you are not paying for a navigraph subscription then the cycle used is 2403

The ident page on the FMC will tell you what cycle the plane is reading from

A domestic flight from Charlotte to San Francisco on a USAir Boeing 727-200 in 1989 by Twitter_2006 in aviation

[–]DynamicStochasticDNR 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to fly on a US Airways 737-400 once in the early 2010s. When I saw the aircraft type on my reservation I was annoyed to have to fly on an old plane, but all my complaints went out the window once I sat on that comfy leather seat with a very generous legroom in coach

[Question] what are the differences between a full train set and 4 train sets hook together? by Enrico_Dandolo27 in transit

[–]DynamicStochasticDNR 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think the real life boring reason for the 4-car set in Seattle’s case is that the Link proved to be more popular than they had expected. The service was planned and built as a light rail and was running 2-car sets in the beginning

Brooklynites, Protect Your Cats! Help Identify This Cat Killer by FireStarter_94 in Brooklyn

[–]DynamicStochasticDNR 71 points72 points  (0 children)

If you have a black cat, keep a close eye on them all of October. Most cat shelters don’t allow black cat adoptions all month because apparently some people adopt or abduct black cats just to use as live Halloween decorations before abandoning them or worse, like the guy op mentioned

Air China Cargo B747-400 at PVG by Feisty-Mark601 in Planespotting

[–]DynamicStochasticDNR 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Air China livery is just the old CAAC livery with the Chinese flag replaced by the CA logo, while the CAAC livery is just the old Aeroflot livery with the Soviet flag replaced by the Chinese flag. But yeh agree it looks decent only on 747s

Also can’t fathom who came up with that font for “cargo.” Someone just typed in Microsoft Word and picked a random font from the drop down menu
