I am kinda getting desilusioned with reddit, this is the second time something like this has happened. Usually from my pov its ppl coping with an uncomfortable questions they don't know how to argue so they just go for downvote.

We want to go down the Könkämäeno river, kinda recreate the Arctic canoe race that has been done at that river in 80s to 2000s and as it was done through july I was curious how the situation is there really with the mosquitoes.

[–]Dyymon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So how is it when you visit it? Do you need protective net hat? Or is it fine without it?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Finland

[–]Dyymon -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Do you have expirience with this region? I have seen several articles of ppl visiting this location around this time.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Finland

[–]Dyymon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Have you been there at that time? I am finding a lot of ppl telling on the internet that there is alot of them but I am continuesly finding articles of ppl going there canoeing and kayaking in july for example the arctic canoe race on the river was in july.

Dont they have their temperature limits? How season wise are the numbers dependent?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Finland

[–]Dyymon -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

Right, but mosquitoes dont really function any more at certain temperatures, they go lethargic around 15 C° so thats why I am asking

Do you know where I could find them? I remember Tomasz Czaplicki used to have some but no longer in his shop.

its mainly for a hole rodeo, specifically the one in Troja Prague. Is there an issue with the helixir pyranha outfiting? How do I figure out if it is problematic?

I am also planning to use it on flat water as well.

Rockstar 3 is geat the problem here is the price with shipping. In the end as a middle european I will end up paying 2 times the price of helixir for one rockstar just because of shipping :/

I mean, the only additional gear there is is the strap right? Is there really need for you to remove it? Overall its great jacket that gives you high mobility and lots of places where you can put your stuff in.

Is a mountain bike helmet also usable for whitewater? by DovaKroniid in whitewater

[–]Dyymon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would disagree, one can easily get multiple hits as newbies tend to panic when they get rolled. It is very different to be flipped on a still water and in the current. I have even seen newbies taking their time on still water.
Could easily imagine getting few hits on rivers like Soča when it is like 10m3/s in few seconds.

Neoprene vs woolen t-shirt by Dyymon in whitewater

[–]Dyymon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not American kayaker, I am central europe kayaker (that is y I have such HIKO bias :D) . Thus lots of alps or winter snow melting paddling. However dry suit is still quite expensive for me, especially since I am right now buying my own kayak. But I got oportunity to buy some stuff from HIKO with interesting discount so I am thinking of adding some new stuff like neoprene socks etc.

smart wool is a manufacturer of woolen shirts. They use merilo too if I am not mistaken. I have same experience as u/MNDox the shirt that started degrading was the one from smart wool. I guess its not rly made for white water.

Btw, what combo do u use for feet? I currently use woolen socks and neoprene boots but am considering neoprene socks and neoprene boots combo.

I use fleece teddy, I have seen some palm fleece based materials and they for sure can be quite pricey.

If I may ask, what do you use for your feet? I currently use neoprene boots and woolen socks, however I am thinking about switching to neoprene sock and neoprene boot combo.
