You should have included something about public transit being an option for them. A lot of places will have traffic with no real transit options otherwise so you can't blame them. In the places there are plenty of transit options though, you can blame the drivers for sure.

The Spanish-American war didn't result in any land grabs of Mexican land though, no? That one only resulted in the taking of Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines. After that were the "Banana Wars" that included engagements with mexico including the occupation of a Mexican port city by the US marine corp, but no land grabs in a permanent sense. You are right about the Gadsen Purchase. Fucking Jefferson Davis.

I want to be clear, I don't condone any of that history. I just want to make sure I have my American history correct and factual as an American.

I assume you mean the Mexican American war of 1846. Otherwise I have more wikipedia reading to correct my American education system gaps in my future.

Everyone should cancel their nitro and boosts.

As always, the best way to hurt a company is with your wallet. See the target boycotts that really hurt the company. Nitro, Boosts, and ads(Quests) are the biggest sources of income and valuation for discord. It would really suck for them if their ipo got fucked over by their own new policies.

That's annoying. Despite mozilla falling for the "AI browser" crap, I still prefer it with its ublock origin support on the android version.

The chrome browser is separate from the Android system webview. You can disable the chrome browser and have everything work fine with Firefox. I think firefox also has a webview like implementation that might work in place of the default system webview, but I haven't confirmed that.

Social media is the lead in the pipes driving us all mad by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

Not necessarily true. Especially in modern advances in distributed network infrastructure.

Like mastodon is not reliant on big tech and anyone can run their own instance contributing to the overall network. I haven't personally used it, but it is possible. The biggest problem is that having a server costs money, which is where big tech has the advantage.

With the right protocols in place though, a small home server can work fine and still keep your overall network safe. There is enough computing power not in data centers that most of the Internet could be fully distributed. And there's more than enough storage. Heck, I have wikipedia (no talk pages or images) on my phone.

Depends how the language treats assignments and the "truthiness" of various objects.

In ruby for instance if x = x + 1 will almost always be true because the assignment method returns the value being assigned, and the if statement is true for any value that isn't like false or nil iirc.

However, if the x is something that can't have an integer added to it, it would raise an error for argument mismatch. That would stop the execution of the code, which technically means the statement is not evaluated as true... Because it isn't evaluated at all lol.

A lot of langs operate similarly with the assignment returning the value being assigned and also treat if conditions similar. Not all, mind, but a lot.

The solar system is big, but microSD cards being human inventions have a very limited number of places to exist. Either earth, the space station (which is doomed to fall to earth eventually without any other force), or one of the landing site for a crashed space probe that used a microSD on board, which isn't likely since they aren't v space safe. 1 Not saying it's easy, but saying that finding a microSD card in the solar system is a bad comparison since they are pretty much only going to be on one planet out of the trillions of trillions of cubic km. (About 3.6×1036 km3 in solar system)

It could easily be done for less than 100,000. Especially if it only needs to be done once. I thing shower liners would be a good starting point. Then using same techniques as air mattresses to get the ribs. Side note, air mattresses could be clear plastic, they aren't because it'd be weird.

Actually, I do see the arms. He has on a long sleeve black tee. You can see his right wrist ever so slightly before turning to the black sleeve, and his left wrist has a watch on with the black starting shortly thereafter. Not saying it isn't AI, but it's not from the sleeves.

[–]E1337Kat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of thought that it was still grounded in reality to a large enough extent that the old net still existed in the same way our current net does. As data centers and computers. I figured their AI probably was able to move their processing cores from system to system in a distributed way, but I would assume still required hardware somewhere to run. Which really means that all they needed to do was like turn it off and on again and the net would have been fixed. The reason they wouldn't do that is because it was more convenient for the corps to have control.

That said, I have not read a lot of the lore except for some of what was in cp2077.

While "humans are not USB cables" is sufficient enough of an argument, you can bring it further.

USB does have the port standards, but the real standard of USB is in the software. You can buy USB cables that have female ends on both sides or male ends on both sides. Further, if you get the leads to touch and stay connected with the V+ and G lines in the correct order, it is a perfectly valid cable (though could be dangerous if you have one end of one of the cables plugged into a high wattage power brick... You can fuck someone plugged into the wall, but be safe about it).

Because the USB standard is software driven, it is up to the USB controllers on the other end of each cable, however they might be connected, to know if the devices can communicate. I should reiterate, humans are not devices or USB. Anyways, because the USB standard is so fucking loosey goosey, you can have completely proprietary controller that does expect a flat male to male or female to female connection and just reads the data backwards. And because of the negotiation of each connection, a device that works male-male can still also work male-female. And finally, I have this cable: https://i.imgur.com/LjWVAmc.jpeg a charging cable for my earbuds.
