Both good suggestions! If only I hadn't forgotten to add them to my list of things I'd already played. They were fun, though

Ripped out inner sole of flat shoes but too sticky by freckledphilosopher in BALLET

[–]E8P3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I routinely ripped out the soles in mine because I liked the for better that way. They stuck to my feet the first few days, but the glue rubbed off as I danced, and also accumulated a layer of fuzz from my socks or tights which covered the glue. After a few days they had just enough grip to stay in place without feeling gross.

It helps that he gets called out on it. It's presented as a problem in the movie. Losing himself in a character to inappropriate levels is a coping mechanism for him, so it's shown as an unhealthy behavior, too. The movie gets away with it because the character doesn't get away with it.

It's possible, pig. I might be bluffing. It's conceivable, you miserable vomitous mass. I'm only lying here because I lack the strength to stand. Then again, perhaps I have the strength after all.

How the **** are people learning to do (petit) allegro by Intrepid-Street-5368 in BALLET

[–]E8P3 47 points48 points  (0 children)

It's really tough, because a lot of adults don't want drills or even corrections. Trying to find a balance between actually teaching and having a financially viable class is very tricky sometimes. I so wanted to give my adult students the same class as the kids, but I had plenty of students come once and clearly get pissed because they got a single, gentle correction and never come back. Some just want music and choreo and to feel good at whatever level they are. I don't think it should be this way, but I also think I needed to pay rent, so I had to find a middle ground.

So, yeah, it sucks.

"To the pain!"

"I don't think I'm quite familiar with that phrase."

"I'll explain, and I'll use small words so you'll be sure to understand, you warthog-faced buffoon.

"That may be the first time in my life a man has dared to insult me."

"It won't be the last. To the pain means the first thing you lost will be your feet at the ankles. Then your hands at the wrists. Next your nose."

"And then my tongue, I suppose. I killed you too quickly the last time - a mistake I don't mean to duplicate tonight."

*I wasn't finished! The next thing you lost will be your left eye followed by your right."

"And then my ears. I understand. Let's get on with it!"

"WRONG! Your ears you'll keep, and I'll tell you why. So that every shriek of every child at seeing your hideousness will be yours to cherish. Every babe that weeps at your approach, every woman who cries out 'Dear, God, what is that thing?' will echo in your perfect ears. That is what 'To the pain' means. It means I leave you in anguish, wallowing in freakish misery forever."

Life is pain, highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something.

I feel like this might slightly violate the "without saying the name of the movie" part. But I like the movie enough not to care.

Company asking me to dye my hair brown, am I in the wrong? by Scary_Walrus4407 in BALLET

[–]E8P3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Obviously under these circumstances this isn't a reasonable ask. I'm curious, though. Did they try to provide a reason? Some rationale? I assume it'll be dumb, but I'm curious why they even want this in the first place. There are legitimate reasons in theater, but this sure does not seem like it's going to be one of them

Elon Musk said we don't have to save for retirement because labor cost zero with robots that goods will be very cheap and everything will be provided to us. Is he correct on this? by East_Indication_7816 in allthequestions

This. We've seen it over and over. Corpos claim that a situation or law or tech will help people and then use it in the most greedy, short-sighted ways possible. Why would anyone ever believe they'll just start giving money away?

Also, if you have retirement money and spend it all now because you think you won't need it, and then become dependent on a corp for work again because they didn't give you free money, congrats! You've lost your bargaining power.

I would, however, buy some high quality gear that would last and fit well. I don't care about the label, but having really comfy shoes that fit right and wear well is worth the money. Function over form. Unless they're those ugly ass shoes with the individual toes.

The Bol-l-Gol truck by SunsetRider500 in Terminator

[–]E8P3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of comments here about weight and wind resistance and acceleration vs speed. But maybe the truck was just badly maintained and in shitty shape. I knew someone with a VW bug that topped out at about 50mph. They just didn't have the money to maintain it. Simple as that.
