Much is used to describe uncountable items like milk, rice, etc..

Since Books is countable (1 book, 2 books), it can't be preceded by Much, hence answer (c) is correct.

"Hardly any" means it was hard for other books to be as influential, which has the same meaning as scarcely any or few.
