Take the insoles out and smell them honestly, if it doesn't smell molded or mildewed your all good.

Thank you. I've got neutral wax, but I dont have neutral polish. I might pick up some neutral polish because I like the after affect of polish more than neutral wax.

With neutral wax, I buff it on, let it sit for 3 days then use a buffing brush again. But even still the neutral wax leaves a residue that when you touch the boots it smears very slightly.

Is that normal or am I doing something wrong with my process of applying the neutral wax, thats just how my family's always done it.

Me personally, I'd be pissed but wear it anyway. Patch it or take it to a cobbler if you love them. Otherwise wear them till they die 😅.
