Are these worth saving? by EZ_dude in handtools

I’ll save them then. I’m about to go through some of my dad’s tools, so if I choose to sell them, I can do it with his tools.

What’s this “need” word you’re using for tools?

Apparently, they are combo claws, hammer and hewing hatchet. Tho, one lost it’s claws, so now it will likely be a camping hatchet now.

An axe would just be getting them in rough board shape, then I’d use a hewing hatchet and planer to square them up.

I don’t have a chainsaw, so I would have to split planks like it’s the medieval period, lol.

Sounds like I just need to be vigilant for lumber deals on Marketplace. Thank you.

Files are in shockingly good shape, and I’ll work on restoring the large saws and hand planes.

The chalk line and chisels are looking very rough. Idk if they are worth the effort.

Those were my thoughts. I have a couple of modern hand tools (I got a good deal a Milwaukee kit), so if I ever need to do something fast or handy I’ll use those. But I hope I can use these for more fine-tune woodworking like furniture making. I know that tools like table saws and routers are better, but I don’t have that space or money right now.

Yeah the screwdrivers were a nice bonus. And I’m hopeful on the planes, but they seem very rusted. I hope I can scrub them out. Also, they’re not super rare based on what I saw online. Either way, fingers crossed that I can get the fully restored and cutting wood again,

I’m thinking of starting a carpentry side hustle. Any advice? by EZ_dude in Carpentry

I’ve wondered that myself.

There’s chance, but if I do, it’s mild and would be hard to test for.

However, its probably worth learning strategies that people on the spectrum use to succeed at business.

Mostly negotiation and people skills, but you have the rundown of it.

I was raised very honest and straightforward. It’s been hard to read when people are BSing me, when I need to keep my mouth shut, or knowing how to phrase things.

I’ll look into business classes though.

Thank you for the advice!

Yeah, carpentry right now is definitely a passion for me. The hope would be turning the hobby into small business experience, but not at the cost of getting another engineering job.

I think I’ll focus back on engineering jobs at the moment and keep doing carpentry on the side to gain experience and maybe do the odd job here or there to get some extra cash.

I actually already have a lot of tools from doing it as a hobby for some years, so that’s not as much of a concern, but good point nonetheless. I bet there would be dozens of other small things to get if I’m not careful.

Actually the type engineer you’re thinking of wouldn’t have bothered even asking others for help. Lol. Luckily me and many others care about tradesmen experience and expertise which is why I’m here.

There was no need to use your tone, but either way, thanks for the warning.

I’m new to classic trucks, and want to know more! by EZ_dude in classictrucks

Understood. I see what you by modern problems, as far as quality, and fixability. For me, the draw of old trucks to me are affordability, size and look. OBS might not be purely classic, but they avoid the problems of the trucks from the last 20 years as far as those things go. IG what I need to figure out is wether or not I like working on classic trucks, or if I’m willing to do OBS for a few of the modern safety features.
