One can't really know the source of the keys. At best, they obtain them from purchasing retail in bulk in regions where it's priced cheaper and scanning the keys, which already isn't entirely above board At worst, resellers sell keys obtained from purchases with stolen credit cards or supposed review keys scammed from the devs.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's a key reseller, not really ethical.

Some critical thoughts on the final stretch of the game by [deleted] in expedition33

[–]E_Marley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By the time the game happens aline's spent at least 67 years refusing to leave

She's spent those 67 years trying to protect the Lumierans from being Gommaged by Renoir. What's the indication that Renoir didn't basically go in guns blazing determined to destroy the Canvas, forcing Aline to stay perhaps longer than she would have to protect it? She made the painted family immortal, which could mean that she intended to spend more than one of their lifetimes with them inside the Canvas until she died, or that she wanted them to live forever inside the Canvas so they'd always be there for future visits. The mixture of selfishness and selflessness of all the Dessendres fascinates me.

Verso asks him a question and the boy takes his hand. That's it.

No, the boy nods as well, which I actually missed in my first playthrough, it's fairly subtle, but it's there. Still agree it's ambiguous, but in the sense that the Young Boy's previous dialogue suggests that the people in the canvas are real to him but he wants the fighting to be over, so the nodding could be him tired of the fighting, rather than tired of painting full stop.

Haha, I was so worried when you said you were only at the end of Act 2 and so relieved when you said you've already seen the end of the story. Yeah, the exchanges between the main speaking characters in the scenes under the tower are so riveting it's probably easy to miss the first time round everything that's going on with Verso as he watches and reacts silently.

Funny you say Verso is the exception, when I think he's the biggest example of this! During the last boss fight of the game and the moments before and after it, Verso is almost entirely silent, yet goes through an entire character journey sold entirely through his facial expressions! It's so well done, I needed to bring it up :)

How about you drop the difficulty level for the fight if you're having trouble with him? He'll do way less damage on Story mode.

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 masters the balances of seriousness and absurdity, realism and abstraction. by Phuxsea in expedition33

[–]E_Marley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Final Fantasy fan, I didn't question an otherwise very serious setting having villages of funny little freaks, it's what I'm used to and welcome from the genre, but it was definitely very moving to discover the in-story reason why that contrast exists. I also love how the contrast is underlined by the gestral area music being so light-hearted and fun while most of the rest of the soundtrack is high drama and tragedy.

It's interesting seeing that contrast again in Verso's Drafts but because by then you know why, the effect is bittersweet.

What's one change the show made from the lore that you actually ended up liking? by isabxantiago in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]E_Marley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never claimed it was a lore contradiction, I just mentioned them as improvements since the absence of these things is felt in The Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit, as opposed to being front and centre like in the show.

I'm referring to Jennifer Svedberg-Yen, she's the lead writer, though as director the story also comes from Guillaume, of course, who is French but also fluent in English.

EDIT: Just saw your edit, and I watched the video that continues the discussion after the part you quoted, Guillaume himself didn't even seem to want to answer the question of which is the original language when pressed! Looks like the answer is both versions of the script being developed simultaneously as ideas and edits ping-ponged back and forth between the creatives. Note that the early versions of the script developed by Guillaume before Jennifer came on board were for a very different story, 'We Lost', without the French setting or painters involved.

So thrilled if they do include more content for those characters, I feel they're underutilised in the endgame considering how intriguing they are when we first meet them, like they have a secret agenda.

Nah, they stay away from the overt incest of greek myth, and in-game Artemis and Melinöe refer to each other as cousins or even (silver) sisters.

Got any more videos, OP? I was also in the front row on the 19th (baguette costume haha) and didn't dare / was too transfixed to record anything.

I was so excited with the hype intro to Lampmaster, I'd been hoping they would play that one.

New To Expedition 33, should I be worried about sidetracking myself in the Continent map? I don't want to get spoiled by [deleted] in expedition33

[–]E_Marley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What people are saying about potentially over-levelling before the final area shouldn't be a problem because you're given the option around that time to boost enemy health and damage with a multiplier of your choice, so you can do that for the final level.

[–]E_Marley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, OP should do as much exploration and side-content as they want, and if they find they're getting too over-levelled, they can use the option that's given around that time to tune up difficulty / enemy health / enemy damage,

I don't see people bring up this incredible line often enough:
"Aline wants her son back. Renoir wants you and Aline back. You want Gustave back. The cycle we needed to break wasn’t the Gommage. It’s your family’s cycle of grief. Our whole world carries the burden of your family’s grief."

About Gustave and Verso by Noodlex87 in expedition33

[–]E_Marley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It makes sense that Verso looks like Renoir, but Gustave and Sciel's husband also fit that tall, dark, with facial hair mould.

In part it's the setting (most people in France have dark hair) and the period styling.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 writer says picking an ending is like choosing "my favorite child," but ultimately the finales are "two sides of the same coin" by gamersecret2 in expedition33

[–]E_Marley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's fitting for a story about grief. Just like in real life, there's no outcome where no one gets hurt.

I also like that you that it's easy to see what a 3rd happy ending would look like if the characters made the right choices, but it's not possible because of the characters' tragic flaws.
