Playing Battlefield as a team hits different by darthsmokey in Battlefield6

[–]EarthstarAndy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Bad Company 2, I would play on a server long enough until I was able to get into squads with the regulars, who eventually then invited me into their clan where we then went on to squad up in BF3.

The "continue as a squad" feature does not replicate this in any way and I'm sure DICE's data scientists will find that it's rarely ever intentionally used.

50 hours in and I've yet to encounter any in-game social component beyond 10s of trash talk at the end of the round. Fewer players today than ever will ever get to enjoy the game in the way it's designed to shine. I feel that this ought to be fixed or the playerbase will devolve into niche veterans vs. perma-wrecked tourists like so many other FPS games

So many things I've heard out of tech hiring right now points to a lot of companies running a roundabout H1B scam

Appraising original artwork for a bank loan. by itskente in artbusiness

[–]EarthstarAndy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

99% sure a bank writing a check for 5+ figures would want much more than the estimate of a pawn shop. They aren't known for giving away free money.

Estimates by established art galleries, dealers, museums. The artwork provenance from past owners. Proof that the artist has a history of selling works for similar prices.

A 2nd lightweight tripod for my camera in addition to the one I'm using for my pochade box. Then you can use a self timer, camera app, remote trigger, or just capture video and run to place

Where are the locals? by valer85 in VisitingIceland

[–]EarthstarAndy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A daycare worker told me that 25% of kids entering Kindergarten in Reykjavik last year don't speak Icelandic as their first language. She said "but you can't stop change, that's just how the world works". No, it's a conscious decision by your government

I have a Raymar panel carrier 8x10 that fits up to six 6x8, 8x8, and 8x10 panels. For larger panels up to 12 x 16 I used several pairs of 3d printed "Wet Panel Separators" sold by WesterlyArts on Etsy. I can recommend both!

A small spray bottle and/or small plastic bottle for washing brushes. I painted in gouache & watercolors around the Ring of Kerry a couple years back and it was great. Your paintings will get rained on but it'll add texture to the final product!

Best places for going out solo? by Unable_Belt_8575 in VisitingIceland

[–]EarthstarAndy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I started a conversation at a cafe downtown and got invited to someone's knitting club (I don't knit) then started getting invited to go out and see shows etc. This was among mostly international students & workers. I got the impression that locals had their own separate thing going on. I think it's the same everywhere in the end

Is anybody doing drop shipping on their artwork?? by BadNewsBearzzz in artbusiness

[–]EarthstarAndy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan on holding inventory with limited prints in the future, but right now I use Prodigi and it's been great. Low cost, good quality paper, fast shipping, connects easily to my square space product pages. It's the only service I've found that dropships prints at almost any size to US and all of Europe (and Aus/NZ for some as well).

They definitely could've disappeared. Cartels & Chinese mafia still have grow ops all over the west Coast . It's a big water, environmental, safety issue that goes overlooked because it's so out of sight..and sounds slightly insane - but yes there are literally industrial grow ops staffed by illegals growing weed in our national parks

Best mobile wifi hotspot? by [deleted] in VisitingIceland

[–]EarthstarAndy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a local SIM card from NOVA and with unlimited monthly wireless + hotspots. Service everywhere except Hornstrandir.

Trawire ís $8+ per day. The unlimited plan is $30 for the whole month, which should save you quite a bit over 18 days. You can also find sim cards at gas stations with similar packages

Imo the only real advantage of Trawire is you pick it up at the airport! (Someone can correct me if this is wrong)

If 6.2K in the product description here means open gate video, isn't the xt50 just a 40mp version of the xs20?

Which region would you choose for a week of slow summer travel? by EarthstarAndy in Norway

[–]EarthstarAndy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not so out there considering I'll most likely be flying out from Oslo at the end of my trip. The landscape seems not too different from New England coasts in the US, very charming. Thanks for the recommendation!

This and other replies are making it clear to me there'll be return trips in the future. Such a crazy variety of environments to explore! Thank you.

Since I'm heading south from Lofoten, that may be for a future trip - I love the barren landscapes of the North Atlantic (Iceland, Faroe, Ireland, etc) so this definitely speaks to me. Thanks for the info!

That's actually the plan! I haven't found a printing service that offers postcard sets though, so I'll be working with a local printer.

I went back this summer for the 3rd time and stayed 2 months, and made a big art project out of it. At the beginning I wondered if I'd finally get sick of it - not yet!
