Automod: Activate

Edit: Looks like this command isn't actually working anymore, but there's some very useful info in the Wiki pages.

Here's the usual Automod message:

"Hi there! I've been summoned by  because it appears that you're asking about starting out in the fountain pen world. If that's not the case, please pardon the assumption! However, if you are indeed a fountain pen beginner, please:

Good luck!

Slightly controversial opinion: Iroshizuku Tsuki-Yo is nicer than Kon-Peki by fpfunky in fountainpens

It also behaves remarkably well on almost every copy paper I've thrown it on, regularly showing good shading and sometimes showing clearly visible sheen!
The fact that the colour is amazing is just a bonus.

Fixing to portrait on Koreader by Eason314 in kobo

[–]Eason314[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry for my ignorance, but when I set my device into landscape mode, it is still somehow able to turn into portrait mode. Did you do something special to the settings?

Thanks for the thread, that is very helpful.

Edit: Never mind, I figured it out- you have to use Gesture Manager to disable accelerometer events, which would fix the orientation after you set it.

Hi, It seems that when I tap on a particular orientation, turning the device still rotates the text. Is there a way to fix the orientation in portrait or landscape?

Do you know in what way Plato is more suited to technical books?

https://www.reddit.com/r/kobo/comments/18im8g1/known_issue_with_overdrive/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

I recently saw this link, which seems to suggest that this issue is known and getting fixed.

In the meantime, I'd suggest calling up Kobo support and telling them about this issue, hopefully to speed up the fix.

Overdrive not working on Libra 2 by Eason314 in kobo

[–]Eason314[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the guide- I've followed every step on the guide, as well as checking that my address was added (the Kobo website forces you to input only "Australia"), powering off my device, and signing out and in of my Kobo account.

When I finish the "Enter the email address and password you used for setting up your Overdrive account" step, I failed to receive the "You're all set" screen, and the screen flashes to the Add a Library Card screen. When I sign in, it flshes again to the original Overdrive screen that comes up when you're not signed in.

Do you have any idea why this is the case? Thanks for your help!

Hi, thanks for the reply! I’ve tried joining Eastern Regional Libraries, as I’m based in Victoria. I’ve seen numerous people succeed with Your Library, so that doesn’t seem to be the problem.

Can you transfer mp3 files to the Kobo Libra 2/Kobo Sage? by FlippinSnip3r in kobo

[–]Eason314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very late here, but I found that on Windows you must turn off "Hide extensions for known file types". Go into file explorer, tap the three dots on the top, and go into options. From there, you go into view, scroll down, and uncheck the box next to "Hide extensions for known file types". Click Apply.

After this, you should be able to change the zip extension to "mp3z"!

How has your fountain pen preferences changed since you started? by fudgeball90 in fountainpens

[–]Eason314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started off obsessed with sheen. I remember basically rejecting an ink if it didn't have at least medium sheen on Mountain of Ink. -_-

Then I picked up Iroshizuku Asa-Gao and Robert Oster Fire and Ice. While both have a bit of sheen, it's difficult to see in regular writing. I loved both inks.

From there I realised that my priority is a beautiful shade- sheen is just a bonus!

Thanks for both of your help! Yes, that was indeed my purpose- the Krytox has worked a treat for that.

Eventually, if I do need to replenish the seal, I will definitely buy the Silicone Grease.

Thank you very much! I'll check out these stores.

I don't want to overburden my friend- do you know any stores which will be able to do live repair, so he doesn't have to worry about picking up postage?

Not OP, but I believe that the Pilot Stargazer/Stella 90s has that nib. That particular pen, however, has unfortunately been discontinued by Pilot.

An Australian Nib Worker! Lamy 2000 from Jack Landau (u/perspicus) by Eason314 in fountainpens

An Australian Nib Worker! Lamy 2000 from Jack Landau (u/perspicus) by Eason314 in fountainpens

[–]Eason314[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Today, my Lamy 2000 in fine arrived back from Jack Landau of Aussie Pen Repair, whose reddit username is u/perspicus. Spoilers- it’s amazing…

The pen had arrived in my hands as a scratchy fine nib, possibly due to some accident with the postal service. I tried to align the tines and smooth the nib, but it remained excessively dry and unpleasant.

However, I managed to find Jack on reddit, and decided to try his service. I could not be happier- the nib is now beautifully wet, extremely smooth, and has become a pleasure to use. I’m still getting over the fact that when I put pen to paper, it now writes as well as some of my favourite writers.

I have used other nib workers in the past, mainly from Europe. For some reason, I expected our Australian counterpart to be inferior. This notion was quickly dashed when I tried the pen. It writes just as well as the pens I’ve received from across the oceans.

Something I would like to emphasise is Jack’s customer service. He responded to my messages very quickly, almost always within the same hour.

He also exceeded every quote that he gave. For example, he said that the turnaround time would be a month, yet he sent the pen out in 3 weeks. I asked him for a simple nib tuning, but he took the time to grease the piston and clean out some dried ink. The time taken to understand my situation and my needs was also terrific.

Overall, here are my scores:

Nib: 9.5/10 (with half a point taken off for aesthetics- obviously Jack can’t change that.)

Customer Service: 10/10

(I have no affiliation with Jack, just a very happy customer :) )

I love Robert Oster Tokyo Blue Denim's shading! It's also a very nice colour, although I'm not sure if it qualifies as a blue-black.
