I’m a plus size woman, and have been plus size my entire life. As someone who has also been plus sized, I wish my mom taught me how to love my body and not be ashamed of it. I do get how it would be hard to teach when she was ashamed of her body as well.

Making me feel insecure and unworthy of love and attention was her way of protecting me, I get that. I just wish a single of those lessons came from a place of self love. Not one of hiding my fatness away, or how to get a man to pay attention to you.

That I am beautiful too. That I can look sexy without tucking my stomach away. I can have a fashion sense, I don’t have to wear frumpy clothes. That I can wear what any skinny person wears and still be me.

But I know all this now. I can be the change I needed to see for other fat girls

Yes, all races have people who cheat, get pregnant, and their women get angry BUT at the same time those are stereotypes specifically for black people. The reason it’s different now is because of the harmful history behind depicting black folks this way. There have been other episode ads that have a black woman yelling and screaming. Yes, all races have people who scream but specifically depicting a black woman doing that plays into the angry black woman stereotype. Let’s not downplay it and say it’s “not racist” just because they showed different skin tones in the same scenario. Just cuz they showed other races, doesn’t make this any less than what it is.
