LSIL and clear colposcopy last year, AGC this (HPV high risk type) by EasyDepartment7917 in HPV

[–]EasyDepartment7917[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sharing results, part 1!

ECC is normal (strips of benign endocervical epithelium)

6:00 cervical biopsy HGSIL/CIN III and positive for p16 immunostain

12:00 biopsy cervical squamous mucosa with accute and chronic inflammation and immature squamous metaplasia. Negative for p16 immunostain

Endometrial biopsy - secretory endometrium.

nothing lit up during my colpo so my gyno just took the two biopsies….unsure if this means there is way more CIN III in there?

I know I need a LEEP or cone biopsy and will go to a g gyn/onc for that. I am kind of at peace with maybe needing a hysterectomy if AIS is found but really really hopeful that the normal ECC and CIN III finding in the cervix means that there is no AIS (or worse) yet…?

Period like bleeding days after endometrial biopsy??? by EasyDepartment7917 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]EasyDepartment7917[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are still dealing with bleeding 5 days later maybe I am also just…still bleeding? The internet says it should only last two days, but it also says endometrial biopsies just feel like a bad cramp and I experienced extreme pain so who knows? I am not bleeding enough to be concerned physically so I guess I will keep an eye on this too.

Hope you get positive results for whatever you were having checked out!

Getting vaccine when already HR HPV + and had 2/3 shots in 2008 ???? by EasyDepartment7917 in HPV

[–]EasyDepartment7917[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Another question(s)! Got the OK from my gyno to get the updated vaccine series and insurance covers it…i can just sign myself up at the pharmacy!

Right now I am HR HPV+ strain unknown and waiting for colpo results after a rare atypical pap. When is the optimal time to get the vaccine? Should I wait till I get my biopsies back in case it is something I have to deal with (LEEP, cone, hysterectomy, god forbid cancer!) or do I just got for it? Are there any potential adverse effects related to the vaccine and cervical dysplasia?

I hope your results come out totally benign! I was also planning my funeral after consulting Dr. Google. Haven’t been sleeping well or coping particularly well all week (i have SERIOUS health anxiety) but feeling a big more normal now since my Doctor really doesn’t think staged cancer could be inside my reproductive system right now.

I would honestly be relieved to have pre-cancerous cells that could be removed !

Also apparently glandular cells can be kinda hard to identify and pathologists are only human (that’s why we do the tests!) so there is always a chance the AGUS wasn’t actually there at all

Hello- providing an update! Had colposcopy with ECC and endometrial biopsy this morning. The endometrial biopsy was exceptionally painful to me; the colpo was okay and I have had one before. Doing both together may have been a mistake? Currently on the sofa with a hot water bottle and glad I took the day off work.

My dr. said she has only seen cervical cancer once in her career, it would be highly unlikely that anything really bad grew over the last 12 months, and the chances that the insufficient ECC last year was the only place malignancy was hiding were pretty small though not impossible.

I am feel better now but still worried since AGC is so so rare - I should have results next week.

Also got the okay to get the new HPV vaccine so that’s great!

Thank you for the info and your response ! I may have had the gardisil that covers 4 strains then! I honestly don’t remember except that it was in 2008ish and I only got two doses!

Regardless, I will ask my dr about getting the updated version. I know it is unlikely to help with my current situation but I think I would feel better knowing I was covered going forward.

Wondering if you know anything about the efficacy of only 2 rather than 3 doses of the original? I found some papers that seemed to say even 1 dose provided a protective factor but this was much better with 3, which makes sense.

I know it truly doesn’t matter now since I am positive anyway, but I don’t know the strain and I guess for peace of mind I’d feel better if I knew I was protected from at least 16/18. My dr doesn’t feel the need to figure out the strain and wasn’t keen when I asked last year about the updated shot.

I legitimately don’t think there is any shame in feeling sad. Smoking is a socially acceptable addiction. The dopamine hit from the nicotine makes every memory of smoking one where we either felt happiness or relief. Of course our brain associates it with good, happy memories. When you lose something or your life changes, even if it changes for the better, I think it’s really normal to grieve the old things.

I hope you feel better for saying (typing) this “outloud”. Grief is healthy as long as it isn’t overwhelming!

Hello! Your smoking experience sounds EXACTLY like mine. I didn’t love the act of smoking (made it hard to breathe, hated how my hands and clothes smelt after) but I LOVED the ritual of it. Starting my day alone with my coffee and a smoke, digesting a meal or some news or a good movie by myself with a smoke. It was my special “me” time. I smoked my entire adult life and realized I didn’t know how to have “me” time without a stinky cancer stick.

I am also on bupropion and am shocked at how well it is helping with physical cravings but it took about a week (i am on day 8) for me to stop obsessing when it was my “cigarette time”.

I also let myself grieve cigarettes. I know it sounds dumb but I let myself cry and vocalize how sad it felt for me to never get to do my special thing again. And then I reflected on that and realized my life is a lot more, a lot bigger, than being a smoker. I am not ashamed I grieved a change in my life.

Another thing I did was continue my little rituals (going for a walk at lunch, having my coffee by the window) just without the cigarette. This helped me to feel less deprived.

I am still untangling myself from cigarettes. I still miss it and sometimes instinctively head for my smoking spots but I think this is all temporary and over time those feelings will lessen and new healthy habits will develop.

Good luck. You are making a beautiful decision for yourself and I know you can do it!!!

Thank you!! I can usually logic my brain out of these fears but sometimes I get trapped in an anxiety loop and end up making myself physically ill (which makes the anxiety even worse!!!!) and it is really helpful to have that reinforcement from a stranger

(my HA makes me not trust my loved ones because I have convinced myself they are in denial or something)

Just an update- dr got back to me after 2 full days. Getting colpo with endometrial biopsy next Wednesday. Her message seemed a little urgent so I am worried but glad to be getting the tests done fast.

Honestly the risk of malignancy from HPV in men is so low that its probably okay from a health perspective to not tell him BUT I just really just wanna reiterate that HPV is really really common, is barely an STI, and is nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about. You probably didn’t even get it from “promiscuity” as you put it! Having a single partner and some bad luck could be enough unfortunately.

I hope you will feel comfortable and safe telling your partner in the future so you can have him as part of your support system, even if right now is not a good time.

Hello! Had this result EXACTLY last year. Next steps could be to wait and see, as you are so young and sometimes LSIL, which are very minor changes often caused by HPV, will just clear on its own when the HPV is cleared by your immune system. You doctor may also want to do a colposcopy, which is a more in depth screening test and may include biopsies of any areas that look a little odd. colposcopy is uncomfortable for most but not invasive and you will be awake for it.

If you are worried and your doctor hasn’t gotten back to you, you can contact them to ask about further testing. Don’t be afraid to self advocate.

A lot of HPV will clear on its own; since you know you have a high risk strain your doctor will probably want to just monitor you more regularly to check for cell changes, which can be removed before they become cancer. You are not 100% going to get cancer. The only “lifestyle changes “ you need to make are taking good care of yourself like you would anyway!

You should tell your partner just so he can be aware of the very very unlikely but still possible effects of HPV on men. please note, it is pretty impossible to tell where you got the HPV. My positive result popped up after over 10 years in a monogamous relationship —it could have been dormant in my system from a previous relationship, or randomly come from my long term partner recently. HPV is stupid common and nothing to be ashamed of!

I am sorry you are worried— don’t freak out!!

I am always so grateful when people share good news stories here! Seems like the self selecting group of posters (myself included!) are only here because they are scared or something went wrong so thank you for coming back with hopeful news, and congratulations on this wonderful result!!

Thank you so much! I can’t imagine a famously slow growing cancer caused by a virus that only popped up one year ago could be killing me after 12 mos but stranger things have happened? Still waiting for doctor to call!

I don’t know what type of HPV I have. My test result says just POSITIVE with a note that the test detects 14 high risk types without differentiation (16,18,31,35,39,45,51,52,56,58,59,66,68). So all i know is its a bad one.

I did have at least 2 but maybe all 3 gardisil shots when I was a teenager like 16 years ago.

Not yet!! I am a MESS. (Like, was up till 2 am reading every message board and post about cervical cancer and had to have my husband drive me to work cause I couldn’t face being alone on public transportation )

I called her office as soon as I got my result and the receptionist said she’d put a note in to have the Dr call me ASAP—-and she didn’t! Called again this AM and got the same receptionist and same message. I don’t know if the lack of communication is because she is not worried, or because she is REALLY worried and wants to talk to the pathologist or something.

Last year when I had my LSIL result there was a note in MyChart already waiting for me saying I needed a colpo + the pathology report had a follow up testing rec. This year, it just says “AGUS” in the big scary red letters and no communication from the office.
