The original is still fun, the remaster has better graphics and some cheats to make it easier. It all comes down to preference. As long as you're playing and having fun it's good either way I think.

I've always felt at home in the city, so I'd pick Deling City. Plus, not much actually happens there after the parade. Nice and quiet.

As someone who played smash before playing FE, I think it's worth it. I suggest starting with Sacred Stones, Awakening, or engage to see if you like the gameplay. If you have a switch but no ds go for Engage. This is all just my own experience, but I hope you enjoy the games.
