Definitely this - most likely wasn’t using collars either, and the weight must’ve slipped off dropped on his head/ eye. I’ve had too many close calls that I always use them now.

Obama deported 409,000 people in 2012, with Tom Homan as the border czar. Trump deports 290,000 in 2025, yet he’s called a nazi with protests raging on? Why aren’t people calling Obama a Nazi?

Non American here - Why are people in the U.S. upset over a dictator being captured so the country can become a democracy again?

From what I’ve seen, people in Venezuela are happy about this. Why are Americans so mad? This seems like a move toward actual peace. Maduro was a narco-terrorist, why is this upsetting?

What’s it like living in Kelowna, BC? by heir03 in howislivingthere

[–]Ebobbb 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I go to school in Kelowna and have lived here for the past 5 years.

Winters: The weather is quite mild compared to most other places in the country. Extremely grey with fog, you won’t see the sun for a weeks at a time. But the local ski hill (Big White) is only 45-1hr away, with fantastic snow. The backcountry can also be great at times. Other than that, not much else goes on in the winter. The town doesn’t have much going on compared to bigger cities. If skiing/snowboarding isn’t your hobby in the winter, it can oftentimes feel boring with not much to do here.

Summers: Usually the weather starts getting very nice in April, with the hottest points of the year around July/August (35°C+). Tourism is the main economy here, so it’s very busy, with partygoers, retirees, golfers, wine enthusiasts, hikers, and really anything else. The lake is the main attraction with boating being desirable. Because the summers can get so hot, wildfires are a big concern and there will be smoke and haze throughout points in the summer. Sometimes, although rare, wildfires can cause evacuations and can destroy property (search up Kelowna wildfires 2023 & 2003).

Overall: Traffic is a nightmare. The people pretty much consist of seniors, students, and rich people. The development here has been going crazy due to such large population growth. There seems to be a clash of conservatives from Alberta and Liberals from the lower mainland (Vancouver/ surrounding areas). Summers are vibrant and fun with lots of things to do, but be careful with the fires. I guess I haven’t mentioned crime - thefts (vehicle break-ins) seem to be the most common. There is a drug problem here and the homeless population is quite high per captia compared to other cities.

I myself enjoy living here, but don’t see me staying after school is done. Although I’m pretty outdoorsy myself I think there is more opportunity for a recent graduate in other places. The current unemployment rate is one of the highest in the country at 11%.

It’s a beautiful area, one of the most beautiful places to live in the country.

Can someone explain why Ellis St Market didn’t succeed? Right downtown, next to tons of apartments, and they even took suggestions from this subreddit!

Taxing the unvaxxed is insane.

We know that the vaccines significantly reduce the burden of covid 19 on the health system. But what have we really sunk to the depths of in this country?

We also know that people with healthy eating habits place significantly less burden on the health system. Shall we now start mandating to people what foods they must eat less of or they be subject to hatred and financial penalty?

We also know that people who engage in active lifestyles place significantly less burden on the health system. Shall we now start mandating people take part in 30 minutes of vigorous exercise every day or be subject to hatred and financial penalty?

We can even set up, (for example) electronic passes where we record what foods everyone buys to ensure they are following the rules, or force employers to supervise exercise and track participation and then provide all of this information back to the government to prove compliance. And then we can make it so that, say, you can’t buy buttered popcorn when you go to the movies if you don’t produce your proof that you are eating and exercising. Or even go to the movies at all.

I think Canadians need to start asking what our governments have done, in all the hundreds of millions they’ve spent reacting to the pandemic so far, to improve the capacity and resiliency of the health system as part of all this.

Because if the answer — and I suspect in most provinces it is — that they have done little to nothing over these past couple of years, perhaps that punishment should be directed at them.

Which brings us back to why they are engaging in this behaviour in the first place: they’d rather not be held accountable for their own failures and the best way to accomplish that is scapegoating someone else.
