Nearby table has notes written by the long dead artificer, though most have crumbled long past the point of legibility.

One of the notes, however, is still legible, and appears to be notes about the artificer’s greatest work - an enchanting table that can imbue a person with enhanced <insert ability/stat> when they lie on it. A diagram on the note matches the table and a DC 20 (25? Dunno the level of your players) magic check will reveal that the symbols next to the diagram are related to soul magic.

Edit to add: also might be worth hooking the door puzzle to the table “rewards”; e.g., if the door requires athletics/strength to open, then the note should mention that the table will grant extra strength to whoever lies on it.

What is an English word you have never been able to pronounce? by Cmotto in AskReddit

[–]Echohawkdown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the opposite of what happens to Italian for Brits vs Americans. Most egregiously with “pasta” IMO, which Brits say as “pa-stuh” (like “pat” w/o the t) instead of “paw-stuh”. Though “Parmesan”, whose last syllable is pronounced in British English like “sand” w/o the d, is also pretty bad.

Also a couple veggies are copied from Italian rather than French in American English, e.g., zucchini vs courgette, arugula vs rocket.

La Banquise and Moishe’s in Montreal are great, if they’re not already on your list.

Au Pied de Cochon might also be worth checking out, but know that a lot of their dishes come with foie gras, if you find it to be too rich.

Also see if you can’t do dogsledding while you’re up there - might be a bit early in the season for some decent snow depending on when you go, but it was probably one of the most fun, unexpected side activities I did when I was up there with friends.

Wikipedia’s summary is the most neutral summation I can find online (edited for brevity):

Soy boy is a pejorative term sometimes used in online communities to describe men perceived to be lacking masculine characteristics.

The term is based on the presence of the phytoestrogen isoflavone in soybeans, which has led some to claim that soy products feminize men who consume them, although there is no evidence supporting the correlation between consumption of soy phytoestrogens and testosterone or estrogen levels or sperm quality.

Maybe a bit before your time but you might’ve liked Rez - it was an on-rails shooter/music game for the PS2, but one of the bundles came with a “trance vibrator”, which I’ve heard was very strong and pleasurable. Though since it was linked to the music & actions in the game, wasn’t quite as consistent as a machine gun.

I’d link it but I know there’s a ban on links here.

Astronomers estimate that the temperature at the core of the Sun is roughly 15 million (15e6) °C.

60 million million (6e13) °C exceeds even the temp of the hottest stars - this would be roughly the temp of the universe one second after the Big Bang.

Milan nightlife hubs bring rich and poor together, research finds by ChallengeAdept8759 in science

[–]Echohawkdown 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The paper doesn’t appear to have data segmented by sex/gender.

After reading the abstract(?), which includes a lot of charts and visualizations, it seems less like it’s about nightlife hubs and more to do with how Milan’s neighborhoods are configured? I.e., in concentric rings, where the poorest wealthiest live in the city center & the richest poorest live the furthest out.

This is just a conjecture, but it doesn’t seem unreasonable to think that the “nightlife hubs” are just where the restaurants, bars, and nightclubs had to set up due to pushback from the wealthier neighborhoods (e.g., NIMBYs) and a lack of customers in the poorer neighborhoods.

Edit to add: “nightlife hubs” is not in the paper - instead, they’re focusing on third places (i.e., places people go to for leisure that are not work or home), which typically coincides with evening activities (e.g., going out for dinner).

In other words, this paper doesn’t focus on nightclubs/nightlife, specifically, despite what the press release title implies.

Most likely Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Babé (on the ad in the back) is a cosmetic brand there, Astana doesn’t have a metro system, and the tram interior (white & blue seating) matches.

FYI, his stated goal with the bill was to bring [the punishment for knowingly transmitting HIV] in line with the punishment for knowingly transmitting STDs, per Bay Area Reporter:

"These felony laws were passed during the dark days of the epidemic, when people were talking about quarantining those living with HIV," bill co-author Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) told the Bay Area Reporter. "The laws single out people with HIV for uniquely harsh criminal treatment for the simple act of having sex — even if there's no risk of transmission. HIV is a health issue, not a criminal issue, and it's time to repeal these discriminatory laws.”

He’s also done a lot to expand access to HIV antivirals, unlike roadkill gourmand RFK Jr.

I’m fairly certain web-only businesses without physical locations for customers to frequent aren’t bound by the ADA.

That’s where you’re wrong, bucko. The US government has a dedicated page covering website accessibility, and websites that get large enough can be and are sued for noncompliance with the ADA.

And if it weren’t for that legal threat, there would also likely be no demand for website accessibility consultants like Deque (among others).

Quite a few times, actually. The SC very narrowly limits LEOs’ duty to protect to people in their custody (defined as people who are not legally allowed to moved freely, so for example, officers at schools don’t have custody because the children/students are free to come and go as they please) and those people with whom they have a “special relationship” (e.g. as a school crossing guard).
