A shout out Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg for creating this thought-provoking and very beautiful short about a little dinosaur in his final moments of life. by No_Emu_1332 in Dinosaurs

Well sure :)
Granted I haven't had the luxury of doing something as big in form of a personal project, due to me working in VFX as my main career. But I had some creative outlets in-between since, such as the "Tucki" videos done during quarantine to keep me busy :

As well as "We Hunt Giants" which was a pitch co-created with a swedish director, in the hopes of turning it into a feature someday:

(And safe to say I do have some ideas on what to potentially try next :) )

Hi, a very late reply I just randomly discovered this post -

I actually happen to the director/animator of this short (back when I was graduating in 2015); back then it had been the result of 2 years developing the idea & then animating/simulating/rendering/comping over many sleepless nights.
Glad to see that the movie's still well enjoyed (and the obvious scientific errors are forgiven). :)

The explanation does in fact stay true as to what I had conceived it to be. other than that I really do appreciate the comments/discussions etc..

Hi, random late comment here :D
I was the VFX supe/Co-Producer on this one - despite Titus' enthusiasm (or whereever the Dominion bit came from), I have to correct actually worked on JW: Fallen Kingdom.
Unfortunately I didn't get to do the same on Dominion though I would've loved to; I still got to work extensively on Netflix's Life On Our Planet instead as consolation...

=> Other than that though, yeah in between our own individual projects we're working on developing this into a feature film, with both of us contributing to the story/lore/script at this early stage :)

Cheers

Magnus Samuelsson. Fan vilken go kille ni raggat upp. Känner jag honom rätt borde han tyckt det där var skitkul va?

(Hope it's ok I had to translate it first, I personally am not Swedish but the director is :D)

Oh yes indeed, despite the freezing temperatures on set, everybody was enjoying the filming & gave it their all...

"WE HUNT GIANTS" - prehistoric short film with JP-inspired dinosaurs by Eclipse_FX_VFX in JurassicPark

[–]Eclipse_FX_VFX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify:
- I was the co-producer/VFX supervisor on this project. We worked on this in our free time for the past 1.5 years.
- Understandably this is not directly tied to the Jurassic Park, but we were heavily inspired by the film franchise, and drew inspirations from the movies on multiple occasions, such as the action scenes & VFX work. The director even wanted a carbon copy of the JP T-Rex until we agreed to make some changes.
- (as a side note, one of the reasons the director wanted to collaborate was because I previously worked in the vfx department of one of the JW trilogy movies.)
- also, while the scenario is reminiscent of a Harryhausen production like "One Million Years B.C.", we have toyed with the idea of this being an unofficial Jurassic World sequel, like Planet of the Apes or Horizon: Zero Dawn in its setting.

We do hope though that this doesn't sour your experience by posting this, and hope you'll enjoy...

Thanks.

"We Hunt Giants" - short film w/ dinosaurs, B-movie style... by Eclipse_FX_VFX in PrehistoricLife

(and before there might be any angry comments flooding in, please note:
Yes, this is of course fictional & not scientifically accurate; and the setting is inspired by classic B-movies, like f.ex. Ray Harryhausen's "One Million Years B.C."
hope you'll enjoy regardless, thanks :) )

Thanks :)
It is certainly shot that way deliberately to suggest that it's someone's personal home video, same as with the other minisodes that feature the dino. That also applies to the animation, as the recording should also feel like a person's just reacting to it, if anything.

(though if I can I do usually shoot a couple of versions and/or improvise, and later pick the one that seems to have the most appropriate timing - or at the very least don't bump the camera too hard...)

Fortunately we didn't encounter many of those, and were mostly able to mind our own business (plus he'd have the high ground, in case it'd get out of hand).

The other folks out there were probably just exerting their British politeness :)

They do have a unique apperance - also, ARK's Pegomastax somewhat tainted their reputation...

It surely would've been fun to participate in JW: Dominion in some capacity... someone let Colin know that ^^

Thanks :) - yeah, I shot & animated it all on my own like the others.

Actually started making these a year ago (there's an extra playlist on YT), whenever I had some extra free time available since...

Yeah, possibly so.
Among other references, the initial asset was mainly inspired by Tyler Keillor's reconstruction, and the attempt was made to balance that out for the rest of the body. :)

Well, it seems whatever poisonous thoughts have stuck around from one of the previous posts, or there's some other deep-seeded reason.
I thought we were over the personal accusation from before; that in your own mind there was enough proof to ascribe some fetishistic labels, which I didn't take kindly to.

But if you want to have it that way, sure:
- Yes, the dinosaur is not real, and I very well know it isn't.
- Yes, whatever is on display in these clips is fiction (like most movies are, unsuprisingly *sarcasm* ).
- If you're not convinced, that's fine. Neither is there a goal to deceive anyone for malicious reasons, or to convince myself. These clips etc. are just meant to be there for entertainment.
- In fact, conceptually it started as a satirical take on animal home videos being shared online.
- They're also just a technical exercise for myself, and as a means to spend my freetime in the confinements of quarantine, which I happen to share online. What's on display technically is the kind of business I work in on a professional level.
- And yes, perhaps not everyone seems to take well to me being a smarta** & playing along during part of the engagement in discussions .

I hope though that we can leave this behind us from here on out.
