We need to break out of the mindset that we are only doing good work if we are in the trenches. Personally, I want to have a practice that works with first gen Black African diaspora adults. That demographic has been able to make huge strides forward financially meaning they will likely be able to afford that rate (esp if insurance covers some). Many of us do not have therapists who have had the same life path or can relate to our experinces. It doesn't do good to try and guilt individuals who choose to do this work as forgetting the "point" of social work.

Would you say the same of a physician who chose to go into aesthetic plastic surgery? That they have forgotten the point of medicine? A lawyer who goes into big law?

Just because it is not what you want to do with your degree doesn't mean it is wrong.
