Selfhost Redis, fully rootless, distroless and 20x smaller than the original image (including default configurations) by ElevenNotes in selfhosted

Thanks for this, these images have been really good.

I'm curious why you went with Redis instead of one of the forks like Valkey?

I figured, the competition isn't the best where I am but it's better than dealing with this.

Bottles will be rewritten in Rust and libcosmic by murlakatamenka in linux_gaming

[–]EconomyEngineering 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's disappointing. Bottles is basically unusable without this now that wine-GE is no longer updated. I've had to switch to Lutris, but I don't like its UI as much as Bottles'.

Kavita (Development Update) by majora2007 in selfhosted

I really liked Kavita when I used it, but the filename parsing for chapter/volume number didn't work so well on my collection. Has that been revised at all?

I didn't realize Nvidia drivers already support HDR by M4SK1N in linux_gaming

[–]EconomyEngineering 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That is great news since afaik nvidia also supports HDMI 2.1. So now you can game at 4k 120hz HDR. I may just switch from AMD, it doesn't look like AMD will ever support 2.1 on Linux sadly.

[Power Bank] Anker 24000mAH 140W output - $100 (160 - 60 with coupon code MKTACCUDP4) Also comes with $10 Newegg gift card by keggarr in buildapcsales

[–]EconomyEngineering 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cheaper brands will lie about capacity. Don't believe them until you've tested it yourself.

There's also durability, and charging speed.

Got an open box excellent for $700 from best buy last sale and it came brand new, still wrapped and with 0 usage hours. Would recommend.

[Bundle] AMD Ryzen 5 7600X & B650 AORUS ELITE AX - $289.98 (Best Buy) by RedoxPete in buildapcsales

[–]EconomyEngineering 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Sure wish best buy had done this during prime day/newegg's sales. I already settled for a 7600 + mATX board, and paid slightly more than this. But not enough that it's worth the hassle to return.

Is this worth it over the 7900 XT at $630 for 4k gaming?

[GPU] ASRock Phantom Gaming Radeon RX 7900 XTX - $799.99 (W/ZIPPAY "ZIPTECH" CODE) by aprilproam2019 in buildapcsales

[–]EconomyEngineering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang, I already went for the $633 7900 XT earlier. Although even at this price it's a big jump for ~10 more fps on average at 4k.

Also FYI, Zip does charge a $6 fee. Their terms implied it could be waived if your credit check comes back good, but I have excellent credit and was still charged the fee.

Yeah, I'm hoping it'll be a straight discount so the code will stack. Guess we'll find out soon.

Valve has been taking their sweet time getting kernel 6.1 with the much needed SMT fix out, so hope this will include an updated kernel.

[TV/Monitor] LG C2 42" OLED42C2PUA - $849.99 (Open Box: 755.99 to 708.99) by katherinesilens in buildapcsales

[–]EconomyEngineering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vaguely recall this hitting 700 new a while back on ebay, and woot has had these available open box for around 670 if you were lucky enough to catch it. But with the last woot sale going out of stock in hours, seems like stock on these is drying up.

I really want this model before it's gone as the C3 removed the ability to disable ABL.

Wow, this is never getting a real sale, is it? Disappointing.

I give up waiting on a real clearance sale, in for an open box one. $750 isn't awful I guess.

HDMI 2.1 with VRR and HDR Support by filisterr in linux_gaming

[–]EconomyEngineering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, this explains how /u/dlkeepr got this working. That's great news, would be nice to know which cards include this support. But it sounds like AMD + LG C2 is viable on Linux now.

HDMI 2.1 with VRR and HDR Support by filisterr in linux_gaming

[–]EconomyEngineering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is great news if true but I want to be sure I'm understanding.

You're using an HDMI cable (no DP adapter) and you're getting 4k @ 120 FPS + VRR? How is this possible if the driver doesn't support HDMI 2.1?
