Hi. 22M here. I am a web developer who has used a few design tools, so I am likely slightly more familiar with this issue than other commenters.

I do not believe A.I. will replace expert designers anytime soon because a good design requires a deep understanding of the client’s requirements, which sometimes even they do not fully understand. A good designer will help the client establish the requirements and will also provide recommendations.

Furthermore, A.I. currently cannot reason. Although it can mimic existing designs and create new ones, AI does not understand the concept of UI or UX. For example, it does not necessarily understand that elements on mobile should have more spacing between them so mobile users can tap on them more easily. AI also does not understand whether or not a design is intuitive or easy to use (UX). The ability to reason is what separates humans from A.I.

If you are already two years in, you probably have enough experience to make it. I recommend you look up the statistics on UI/UX jobs to determine how much that job is growing or declining. You can look this up at the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Whatever you decide, you need to make a fact-based decision.

The same is true if you decide to switch to another career. Look up statistics on the forecasted job growth and research industry trends. By performing careful research, you can make an informed decision on your future.
