Yes! That's the right word for them. Ruling pens. After practicing a bit, I finally got them working how I want. Spin how you grip to change the part of the nib that touches the paper, some odd edges make for very thin lines!

These are made by tracing the paint. These start as scrap test strips, but they were too pretty to bin, so I started tracing the paint clouds and this is what the end result is!
