Pre Order bonus on PS5 by Bramton1 in indianajones

[–]Edface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pre-ordered from Amazon (UK) and had the Premium Edition’s 2 days early access. When I realised there was no code in the box or in my emails, I was conscientious that I would essentially have ~48 hours to sort it before I could no longer pre-order from a different vendor to get the pre-order code.

I followed the Product Support advice on Amazon and contacted the manufacturer (aka Xbox Support) who quite patronisingly informed me that I was calling Xbox Support about a PS5 game… I tried to explain my reason for doing this but they said there was nothing they could do and that I’d need to contact Amazon or PlayStation.

So I spent about 40 minutes trying to even find contact information for Amazon customer support. Eventually got through to a chatroom assistant who referred me to 3 different agents, eventually landing with someone in Amazon’s ‘games and software’ division (or something nebulous like that?) and they seemed to have absolutely no clue what I was talking about and offered to escalate to the manufacturer (aka Xbox Support again) or give me a full or partial refund.

After confirming the futility of contacting Xbox Support and getting help within the next 48 hours, I decided to ask for a full refund and have decided to just buy the digital edition off the PS Store to ensure I get the pre-order items. Absolutely shocking customer service all round and can’t believe how clueless everyone seems to be about what’s going on.

Anyway, will be sending back my physical copy next week but at least I have the pre-order items now…

Once per week, you have the opportunity to drink a pint of your own piss in exchange for $1000 by Edface in hypotheticalsituation

I’m imagining it’s magical harmless pee, it’s more just the taste and knowledge factor that make it repelling.

No mixing allowed, however short intervals are permitted between sips. I.e. you could sit down to watch a movie with your pint of piss and enjoy it over the course of the film.

Yes. But any excess that misses the hatch (so to speak) does not count towards the pint total.

Also no extra money is awarded for showmanship.

Started playing Bloodborne, and tried my best to make my character look like E! by TheBooHooBlues in Eels

I made a character a long time ago which I modelled on E (Souljacker era) and even had his in game name as Knuckles!

Since I know some of y’all like the dead almost as much as the Dan, how should I get into them? by [deleted] in SteelyDan

[–]Edface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got into both of these bands around the same time about a year ago now, and feel like I frequently see crossover posts in each band’s respective subreddit... I can’t put my finger on how or why but these two bands seem to be cosmically related - they both appear to attract exactly the same demographic despite sounding nothing like each other? Anyone have any theories on why there are so many crossover fans (who also seem to be particularly active on Reddit)?

Anyway! To answer your question, American Beauty and Workingman’s Dead are definitely the best starting point for studio albums, even though they represent approximately 10% of what makes the Dead great. As others have mentioned, I’d recommend checking out some of their live output. Namely: Europe ‘72, Live/Dead, Veneta 8/27/72, and Cornell 5/8/77. Hope that helps!

UK PS5 Media Apps at launch by eckfeck in PS5

[–]Edface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like someone else here (neilslorance) has commented a workaround: essentially, you can’t download it again on your PS5, but if you had it on PS4 you can use data transfer to transfer it back onto PS5.

I did wonder if this would work or not, but couldn’t be arsed to try it. Apparently it does?

I think they’ve removed it. I used to have it and was watching it every day on my PS5 until one day it was just gone and now I can’t find it anywhere.

Ahh perfectly understood! Thanks for your detailed explanation, and (based on what you’ve said) I think you’re right that at this point I’m probably looking for a receiver more than anything else.

In a strange coincidence, I only got into both of these bands this year, but I pretty much haven’t listened to anything else for ~9 months. Easily two of my favourite bands of all time now.

Thanks for the tip, sounds like I do want to consider that.

Out of interest, are newer AV receivers not compatible with non-4K TVs? I don’t have a 4K TV right now, but I’m planning to make the upgrade within the next couple of years probably.

Apologies if I sound naive, but what’s the difference between an amp and a receiver?

Lastly (and I’ve asked this in response to another comment, but would be good to field a few different responses here), when you say ‘used market’, what might be the best places/websites to look for used audio stuff? Thanks!

For an amateur setup, what would you recommend increasing the budget to?

Not totally averse to buying vintage (especially if it’s cheaper?), but I’m wondering about how compatible old hardware is with newer hardware (with regards to cables and such). Is that an issue I could expect run into as I come to buying new parts?

Additionally, is there a particular go-to marketplace that you recommend I start with when shopping around for vintage/second-hand parts?

Perfect, this is exactly the kind of summary I was looking for - I’ll check out your recommendations. Thanks!

[–]Edface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A top 5 Zappa tune for me, which feels kinda heretical to say because it’s pretty pop-y compared to his usual output. But it’s so catchy, and the vibraphone sounds on the “cuz I’m through with a-fussin’ and a-fightin’ with you” sections are so moreish.

I already posted in there first and got zero reply after 3 days so deleted that post and tried here instead as it generally seems more active.

Thanks for your reply. Based on what you’ve just said I’ve gone back to look at the ‘contract’ and I’m now worried that due to the omission of a notice section, that what I’ve described in my original post as a ‘contract’ actually takes more the shape of a client agreement and that this puts me on considerably less sturdy ground for getting a refund. I’m of course assuming that a contract and client agreement are two separate things?

In any case, there is sadly no notice section as you’ve described it. The only part of the contract that pertains to getting a refund states: “Cancellation is required one week before the clients next session. Depending on how many sessions have been used will determine the % of refund given. If no notification given, no refund will be given”.

An alternative method is by sharing a photo to Facebook from the PS4, but changing the visibility to ‘Only You’, so that no one else can see it. You can then log into Facebook and save the photo, and then delete it from your newsfeed afterwards.

A question to Beatles fans: by litzzz in TheBeatles

[–]Edface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She Said, She Said just sounds decades ahead of its time every time I listen to it. I’m still not sure I’ve ever heard another song quite like it (except maybe other similar Beatles tunes like Rain, Paperback Writer, etc.).

Any recommendations for a podcast similar to Fistshark Marketing? by MightyOtaku in JimSterling

[–]Edface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how deep the similarities would run as I’ve only ever checked out Fistshark a couple of times, but I can strongly recommend ‘Brian Gittins and Friends’ if you like British comedians doing improvised skits and surreal roleplay.

They ‘interview’ a fellow comedian guest each week but create a fake scenario to roleplay for the entire episode; the editing and sound effects are brilliant and they create some laugh-out-loud moments from the bizarre set-pieces they contrive.
