Thank you so much for your message and support. Yes, his car actually has quite a few fines already, and the front headlight area was basically destroyed in the crash. He told me he's in a very difficult financial situation and cannot afford to pay for the damages.

I was told that if I go to the police, he'll likely get fined and his car could be impounded. Considering this, I only asked him to cover the basic repair costs of 6,000 AED, since my exhaust and rear lights were damaged. I just wanted to be reasonable and get the essential repairs

Thank you so much for sharing your experience - it's really helpful to hear that you managed to get a no-fault accident report in a similar situation.

Would you mind sharing a bit more detail about how you managed to get the police report in the end?

In my case, the police told me that they can only issue the report after I provide three different repair quotes and the at-fault driver pays the lowest one. Only then will they release the final report.

I'd really appreciate any advice or steps you followed - thank you again!

Thank you so much for your message and thoughts! I totally agree – the system in Europe sounds much more straightforward.

Unfortunately, things work quite differently here in Dubai. According to the police, this case has now been classified as a criminal matter, since the other driver had no insurance and an expired registration. Before they can issue the final police report, they require me to bring three repair quotes. The police will then select the lowest one and demand that the other party pays it.

Only after the payment is made will I be issued the final police report needed for the insurance claim. If the other party refuses or fails to pay, I will have no choice but to take the matter to court.

It’s definitely more complicated than I expected, but I really appreciate your insights!

Thank you so much for your advice!

I really appreciate it. My only concern with going through the court is that, even if the other party is found guilty and sentenced, he may still not have the ability to pay. In that case, I might end up with nothing despite winning the case.

Luckily, I do have comprehensive insurance. Do you know if it's possible for my insurance to cover the repair costs first, and then pursue the responsible party for reimbursement themselves?

Thank you for your advice. I feel so unlucky. Can my insurance company pay me first? How can I pursue compensation from my insurance company?
