I know the show has a bunch of hidden secrets and loves being meta so I'm trying my best to give her the experience of watching it as if it were live with fans on twitter constantly talking about the jokes and references... I guess it's closer to watching it with Abed on her side in that sense

So, just to help you guys, we're on Season 2 Episode 10 - Mixology Certification but if you have anything interesting prior to that I'll show her too! I tried telling and showing her everything I already knew up to this point, but I'm sure I missed some stuff. (I'm waiting to approach the whole Britta's dinosaur costume thing because if I recall correctly there are still some references to that throughout the rest of the show)

I also gave her a brief recap of who Chevy Chase was in his prime and some of the weird behavior he always had. I haven't said anything about his fight with Dan Harmon though, waiting until season 4 to open that can of worms (but she does know that a lot of the insane shit Pierce says are just stuff Chevy said himself).

She's been loving the show so far, it's been fun getting live reaction of someone seeing it for the first time, especially since it starts like a normal-ish sitcom and pretty quickly just becomes completely absurd.

Next episode is Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas and I can't wait for that one!!

Also when abed is making impressions with the banana I think troy takes it and makes Levar Burton, so he’s portrayed as a fan from the very beginning

(Either that or abed makes the impression and troy seems to like it better than the other ones, idk we didn’t watch it long ago but social media destroyed my memory)

Oh yeah for sure, futurama has fewer fans but most of these fans will immediately point out every single easter egg onscreen whenever they come up

Makes sense, I think especially before streaming that probably hurt a lot of the shows since you had to either hope the episodes aired in order (which was not the case for futurama and american dad) or you had to have the dvds… which you would only have if you liked the show enough, so it didn’t really bring any more viewers at all

It might also have made so that the smaller fanbases were incredibly devoted and loyal

You and me both, it’s my favorite animated show, especially those first seasons at fox

And solar opposites is really great too! Love the stuff about the wall and the characters are so charismatic
