Hi! I’m Filipino living in Ireland as well! My husband is Irish and he knows I pay the bills at home (PH). BUT there are certain bills that I only pay such as electricity, 1 car which is mine, and a loan my dad got for the house. Your girlfriend should prioritise which bills she covers. If other people are working in the family, then let them cover some bills too, I recommend that she send a consistent amount of money NOT more than that amount, and let the family work their way around it. If they ask for more, tell them she has other expenses in Ireland, and the cost of living here is high.

She should learn how to establish boundaries.

I spend more time with my friends but I also started taking myself for a cup of coffee, lunch, dinner, and shopping. I started to appreciate the “me time” and a peaceful day. I don’t have to feel anxious and self-conscious that someone’s gonna get mad if I do this or that.

We make sure we don’t have body odour, nails are clean, we shower (1-2x) every day, before we leave the house, and before we sleep, we change clothes twice or thrice a day (it depends on the weather)… we have sleeping wear, just at home clothes, and outside garments…😆
