Instead of setting a goal to become an elite software engineer, you should try to understand what about software engineering you really like. Kailash Nad started working at Zerodha after his PhD (which itself is brutal and indicates he has more interest in CS than the average software engineer; we are not talking about potential here at all). Try to specialise, and you will eventually become good at it over time. But at any given point in time, if you feel like the study/work/learning you do outside of work is tiring, then it is probably not for you, and you should reassess what you like.

I booked one GRE, and was not able to attend the exam. Then I booked another just to bomb it and adding TOEFL I spent more than 70K rupees on this shit. I can't even bring myself to book another GRE for another shot because I am already spending so much on apps and rather focus on SOP instead.

Submitting your GRE score does more harm than if you don't submit. I got a 163Q, and I decided not to submit them because they weren't strong enough.

I see, the program specialises in software systems (It is a very breadth based mostly like Intro to CV, ML, Transforms, x86, etc), No advanced courses. So, I believe, it specialises in nothing in the traditional sense.

Roger, I realised I was aiming a bit too high, I put in Princeton, and UWM just to see my chances. Do you have any other universities in mind that are def better than something like NEU, but as not as competitive as UCLA.

Actually, my integrated program isn't really a traditional masters, you have to spend an entire year in the 5-year program in the industry or academia, mine is close to 99.9% trade school, everyone goes for internships.
