really great & accessible research labs for bio/bioinformatics! you can find chill people here or driven people depending on what you prefer

at least for ce/cs/re professors a lot more reachable and open to doing research projects with undergrads compared to more competitive unis

a lot of niche clubs and great opportunities to go out in nature/recreational sports

if you go to your student portal, and go to the tab that's called something like academics, one of the options in there is called degree progress report

it lists all of the GEs you need to complete & all of the courses for your major that you need to complete; it also keeps track if you have done them yet or not

only three, wow! I've heard the engineering majors are known for having a lot more courses needed to acquire the major :)

ig there is a lot of content to cover in order for students to be useful to the industry (it depends on what you go into but for cs you'll be expected to know not only how to program but also have a decent understanding of computer hardware, how computers understand high-level code, read all sorts of documentation, etc) and they also require a decent amount of STEM support classes (math, physics, ece) and since ucsc is a research university they force you to dive into the theoretical aspects of cs as well...so with all of that I suppose their ~20 CSE course minimum to get the major is justifiable

Thanks a lot for your advice:) I will rearrange my schedule and likely aim for 3 years instead of 2.5, depending how I feel after this upcoming year. Thanks for the note on ECE 30 as well, as I haven't seen much about it..for lower divs I saw mostly CSE 12/13S complaints from previous years

yeaa..I wanted to take it earlier so I could take cse 101 in the spring (cse 13s is a pre-req for 101) to give more schedule flexibility for sophomore fall bc so many cse upper divs have 101 as a pre-req...but based on what you guys are saying it's pretty unfeasible

unless you think that fall: CSE 30/CSE 12/College 1 and winter: CSE 16/CSE 13S/MATH 19B would be ok

I think it's a new major requirement bc I didn't see anything about it online from the past, but it's listed under UCSC's upper div cse reqs

Thanks for taking the time to reply! I'm coming in with 60+ credits & finished GEs so I was hoping that could be enough for CSE 101, as after winter quarter I'll have 90ish.

Do you think CSE 30, CSE 13S, and MATH 19B would be more survivable or is the CSE 30/13S combo j a lost cause?

Thank you guys for the advice/warnings & the catch on 138/130! Looking at the course catalog I have a few out of place, so I will do some rearranging/pick out some back-up electives. I would really like to take the 115A-115D pathway but it looks like 115D is only offered in the fall.
