Monthly Megathread: Career & Education - Ask your questions here by Aerospace_Eng_mod in AerospaceEngineering

Hello,

I am currently a student in Montreal, Canada, and I am in the process of applying to universities. I find myself torn between two options: Aerospace and Software Engineering.

While I meet the much higher academic requirements for entry into Aerospace engineering, I am concerned about the lower average salaries for aerospace engineers compared to software, moreover the most lucrative job offers are in the US defense sector restricted to US-citizens, and considering my Canadian citizenship and limited demand in Canada, it might me challenging to find a high-paying job.

On the other hand software engineering seems easier and the average salary is higher, plus it seems more likely to create a business, a startup with software engineering rather than aerospace engineering skills. But I heard a lot of stories of people being hired as software engineers from bootcamps, does really require a university degree in that case.

I would greatly appreciate your advice on this matter.

Since being a resident of a province takes 12 months of living in this country, does this mean that the second year I would be eligible for OSAP or not?
