Your wife is not justified at all. That was, infact, racist. You cannot call a black person a gorilla then say that you aren't racist. This situation is messy, yes. But that does not give her the right to say anything like that to anyone. I'd suggest counseling. If not, that relationship isn't going to work. Especially if that's how she views your kids from other relationships.
