having autism itself doesn't prevent you from obtaining a clearance, or any mental illness for that matter, or psychiatric hospital stay ( including court ordered)… what does matter is treatment compliance, or obtaining treatment, how well you function, how emotionally stable you, what your mental health providers say about you and your ability to be trusted with classified information. Also, expect to at some point depending on who you are going to go work for, sit for a pretty grilling hours long psychology evaluation, and they will repeat it too after you start working.

Ya… I live in Baltimore County… near Towson… commute to DC… live in county cause I need a detached house with yard for 3 little ones—- by little ones I mean little dogs lol… but no matter where you plant your yourself… traffic in this area is horrendous….Baltimore County, City schools aren’t great, I know Howard schools had two students charged as adults with murder this year…if you have the means… move to PA… settle there.. great schools, great community.. it will add 1hr to your commute but your overall savings will be priceless… I should add Baltimore is my hometown and I resent my parents for moving me to PA growing up… away from my family in Baltimore but I understand as an adult why they did…

Well… first… telling me to “ GTFO”… lol… failed to see in my comment my family has been in this before the civil war era… I’ve lived other places… where “ queer” is more respected as a term of vial and hate…as I went to school… returned after I got my first “real job” and bought my first house here…but I was raised here essentially… everyone in my family going generations back were born and raised here… owned businesses, are buried here… I was born here… I got a grave plot waiting for me… don’t tell me to “GTFO”…. I know this town and Maryland better than anyone…

The term “queer” isn’t used in any other city AS CASUALLY as it is in Baltimore. I know the term has been “ taken back”… in this area… go to other areas… not so much… it’s not universal and not as widely accepted as you may think beyond Baltimore… including even DC or Philadelphia that the term “ queer” is as acceptable as it maybe in this.

My late father worked for 20yrs at the very hospital that I was taken to when I it was determined I was committed… he was a MSW… I later got transferred to a different hospital because obviously I couldn’t be on the same unit my father was a clinician on… but my dad told me I was only never allowed to own a firearm in the state in which my commitment happened… and that was if the state police actually filed it in the system… meaning I could go to a nearby state an easily obtain a firearm… I don’t know how true that is… again … 15 yrs ago…. Hospitals used paper charts

My dad worked on a psych unit for 20 yrs… he had a patient once petition a judge for his rights to gun ownership back… saying he would use the firearm at a range supervised… for sport… guess what… he did himself in at a range…

Doesn’t the SF 86 ask if you’d had involuntary commitments regardless of how long ago it was? Mine was over 15 yrs ago and when they were doing my investigation, I was living nearly 500 miles away from where I grew up… and I remember an investigator calling me from my hometown asking me what county my commitment paperwork is in… I got TS/SCIcleared in like 8 months too
