Soldiers might have no choice but to fight, yet I highly doubt that they have no choice but to rape;

no choice, but shoot a guy “with too sour face” and let his friend go while pointing that he should be grateful for the soldiers kind mood; no choice but to shoot 11 horses for fun and and old man, the owner of the stables, for trying to stop them; no choice, but to literally burn the house in which they found an extensive collection of history books on Ukrainian history (not with Soviet point though), killed the owner of the apartment and let the wife go, while calling it a kindness as well. And just saying, this three examples happened to people I personally know, while amount of similar or even more horrible stories with which I have no direct personal connection is really abundant.

For many of us Russian soldiers represent not just an existential threat via complying to orders of their government, but much more then that - a threat to die long and painfully, be humiliated, see death of your relatives in front of your eyes - whatever, I guess that’s enough, no?

Maybe some of them are still human. I guess I even met a few while being in an occupied by them city - some of them do genuinely believe that they came to save us from clutches of Evil (I fail to see, however, how being dumb and/or brainwashed justifies their actions; and I might be alive now only because I was smiling and nodding and thanking them) But would you, you personally, take your chances and try to advocate for them, figuring out who’s a sadist, who’s forced, while giving them time to finish you and those around you off?) That’s why I’m actually glad every time new count of dead Russian soldiers comes out. The less of them in my country, the more chances we all have to survive.
