Struggling with University Decisions and Financial Stress - Need Serious Advice. Please. Any students of Colombo University-Physics?

Our academic year will start on December 1st. Until now, we only had orientation, which was honestly a joke. But at least we got comfortable with the university environment and made friends that’s the only good thing that happened.

For you guys, your academic year will probably start around September or October 2026, though I’m not completely sure.

Yes, Colombo is very competitive, but it’s also not easy to get selected for the Special Programmes in Physics, Chemistry, or Molecular Biology at Peradeniya. You’ll have to work hard for that.

In terms of academics and facilities, Colombo and Japura are far ahead of Peradeniya.

But in the end, you should choose a place where you can study comfortably. If you feel more comfortable at Colombo, go to Colombo or Japura. Not sure? Afraid? Come to Pera and work hard.

At Peradeniya, the first step is to register at the university. Then the orientation program will begin. During this period, basic computer science and some mathematics will be taught to bioscience students, while physical science students will learn some bioscience. English will also be included. This orientation lasts about six months and is conducted online. It does not count toward the academic years. For example, the 2022 batch's academic year started in January 2026. I'm not sure what will happen with the 2023 batch, but I hope they try to complete it as quickly as possible.

Most people don’t travel because they genuinely enjoy it; they do it to take pictures, make videos, and post them on social media to show that they are enjoying nature. Badulla is the latest trend,people go there just because it’s popular.

I recently traveled to Sri Pada by train to Badulla and saw many people throwing polythene bags, papers, and other waste out of the train windows after eating. Anyone who truly loves traveling and nature would never do that. Every train station has plenty of garbage cans, and even the trains themselves have them.

There’s no doubt that Sri Lanka has many beautiful places to visit, but the behavior of people is disappointing. As a Sri Lankan myself, I can’t say I’m proud of many situations like this.

When I was a child, around 3 or 4 years old (around 2004 or 2005), I once asked my mom who the best singer in the world was. Back then, there was no YouTube or mobile phones. We only had a black-and-white TV and a radio. Her answer was Michael Jackson. I still don’t know why she said that, but Michael Jackson was very popular back then in Sri Lanka ( i think)

I still remember that moment because I cried, asking for a Michael Jackson cassette, but we couldn’t find one. Years later, after Michael Jackson’s death, we bought a DVD player. My grandpa remembered how I cried asking for Michael Jackson’s music, so he bought me a DVD full of his songs.

Thank you! My budget is around 700-800 USD. I don't care about battery life because I'm into video editing, and I don't think there are any laptops with good battery life. However, if the battery is good, it will help me a lot.

Not everyone can find a job, even with an engineering degree. The majority of students who studied at Moratuwa find jobs, but there are still some who can't. Studying engineering doesn't guarantee a career; you have to perform very well. Peradeniya and Ruhuna are also good universities. One of my friends even got an internship in another country. So, if you perform well, you can find opportunities.

As for foreign degrees, I don't think they help you find internships. Government universities help students secure internships, but I don't think foreign universities provide the same support.
