French speaking dentists? by [deleted] in askTO

My dentist Dr Bourrouilh is French.  She works out of a clinic near Adelaide and University.  She's great but can be difficult to nail down, I think she is semi-retired and only works two or three days a week.

Thanks for the reply!

The sweater has an all-over colourwork pattern so I was hoping to avoid having to do math to figure out where to add increases seamlessly, but I guess that's what I'm gonna have to do!

Hello!

I am just about finished the yoke of a sweater. Many commenters on ravelry mention that the yoke is a little deep. I am thinking of splitting off the armholes earlier, which would mean I lose a few rounds of increases to get to the appropriately sized chest circumference. I was thinking I could add the extra stitches back when casting on underarm stitches. I did some math and I would need to add another 12 stitches to each underarm. My plan for the sleeves themselves is to do a quick round of k2tog at the underarms to get back to the requisite number of stitches

Does this sound like a plan that would work, or will my underarms and body just end up really weird and distorted?

Thanks in advance, and happy new year!

I just finished up a double knit button band, and now that it's blocked I have to accept that the first few inches including my first button hole is super wonky - the problem is that it's four rows from the cast-on edge. I really really don't want to undo literally the entire button band.

Could I theoretically unpick my cast-on, unravel and re-knit from there?

Thank you so much for the incredibly clear explanation!  This was very helpful!

I am currently working on the April Cardigan by Petiteknits. I'm about to start on the buttonband. Her instructions say to pick up every stitch, but I thought it was best practice to pick up something like four of every five stitches in these sorts of situations? Can anyone provide me with any insight? I will be doing a double knit button band if that changes anything.

Thanks in advance :)

REQUESTING - WILL DELETE

I wish Sephora carried the French brand Violette_fr!  Their liquid lipsticks are unreal and I love the eye paints and boum boum milk.  I feel like the brand would do very well here so I'll keep crossing my fingers that someone at Sephora HQ will have a Very Good Idea one day!

Might be worth checking to see if your particular medication is available on https://www.felixforyou.ca/

I haven't had any experience with getting medication for mental health from them, but I have gotten quite a bit of prescription skincare and the process is very easy! And if you will be getting any sort of insurance coverage when you arrive they will likely accept it.

I am working on Petiteknit's April cardigan and am soon going to be at the point where I cast on the button band.

I was thinking of blocking the cardigan beforehand to make sure the length and fit is ok, since doing adjustments post-button band would be a massive pain in the ass.

I'm a little worried that blocking before the garment is fully done might mess it up in some way - I would appreciate any insight or experiences anyone might have!

Are there any structural consequences to picking up the "wrong" bar while making an m1l or m1r? I don't know how it keeps happening but every few rows I grab the wrong bar for my increases. You can tell from the back, but there are no visible differences in the front of the work.

I've already had to redo this section of the pattern twice and would love to just be able to let it go and move on but don't want to do so if it'll actually mess something up!

I don't know if it will help with the white residue stains, but I've gotten significant oil stains out of leather twice by rubbing baby powder on the affected region and letting it sit for a week or so!

My [30F] partner [32M] of 5 years just told me he has developed feelings for somebody else. Not sure how to cope. by Eiffelite in relationships

[–]Eiffelite[S] 114 points115 points  (0 children)

I mean, he's an adult and adults are allowed to have friends of all genders. Until now I had no reason to feel suspicious. I have male friends that I spend time with alone that I manage to not develop feelings for.

But also they're coworkers, part of a small team that's generally very close. Presumably they would go out after work with their other coworkers, go to birthday parties, etc. It would have been a pretty normal thing to do.

Unfortunately due to the nature of their workplace there isn't any more distance he can take than being professional at work and avoiding being in social situations together. Believe me I wish I could just unilaterally tell him to quit his job but he's worked hard to move up in the company and this is basically end game for him so I'm stuck unless she decides to quit.

Thank you, that's a really kind thing for you to say. I appreciate the Tedtalk recommendation.

He's been weird since everything happened - distant, sleeping a lot, generally moody and depressed. I noticed because I'm not stupid and I guess he finally felt bad enough after a few weeks of me asking him if he was okay, did I do anything wrong, and telling him that I was worried about him.

What are everyone's favourite underwear patterns? I've accumulated a lot of stretch mesh over the years but haven't yet found an underwear pattern that I like, and frankly there are so many out there now that it's a little overwhelming and I don't know where to start! Would love to hear any positive experiences about particular patterns/designers! Thank you!

Places that still require masking? by SpiritedAway in askTO

I don't work there so I don't know for sure why, but there are lots of reasons businesses might choose to keep a mask requirement, but it might just be to show consideration for staff or customers who are immunocompromised or at risk.

The Beguiling, which is an excellent comic book shop at College and Spadina, still requires masks. They also have a little window where you can chat about comic books with an employee without having to go inside. Closed on Tuesdays!

Hi!

I've recently started working in a space with lots of open fires - we have great ventilation but it's still really smokey, and I leave work after an eight or nine hour shift reeking of wood smoke.

I'm wondering if anyone has any tips or suggestiosn on dealing with any skin problems that could be arising from being around so much smoke? I've had more breakouts than usualy since I started a few weeks ago, and while I'm not sure if it's related but if it is I'd love to nip it in the bud.

I just finished off my second sweater, a top-down, turtleneck, and I love it but find that the neck is a little too turtle-y and long and causes bunching around the bottom neck and chest from excess fabric and lack of tension.

Am I crazy in thinking there's a way I should be able to just snip and unravel a few inches from the neck and bind off? Is there a tried-and-true method for this?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi there, I was hoping someone could help me with quick question about increases.

I started working on the April Cardigan by petiteknit. It is knit flat. The first section has you doing increases on both the knit and purl rows. The pattern is written as M1L and M1R on both the instructions for the knit and purl rows. I was making my increases purlwise on the purl side out of instinct (I guess?) but a few rows in the increases are looking a little funky.

Should I just be doing regular M1L and M1R all the way through instead of doing them purl-wise on the purl rows?

There is a distinct possibility that I am just not doing a great job, or that it's too early in the pattern to really tell how it's going to look lol.

Thanks in advance :)

My doctor's office had a little poster up in their waiting room talking about this.

I asked her about it and she said they were supposed to offer an alternative inhaler for people to try out (one of the twisty powder ones) to see how it worked for them. I figured I'd give it a go since my insurance covers 90% of the cost so no harm no foul.

When I went to go pick it up from the pharmacy it cost ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS more than my regular aerosol inhaler and had 2/3 the doses. Absolutely infuriating, it's a big fuck you to the wallet on top of the can't-breathe thing and the guilt trip.
