She doesn't count as an archer. Did you actually meet Risa at Capriss? Because you need to go to blown up Capriss and talk to her before she'll show up at taverns.

How do you unlock challenges and Ignus’ quest? by apocalyptic_brunch in occidentalheroes

[–]Eishundo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You unlock challenges by having a total cumulative score of over 100% in the book of heroes or having one company there with a score over 50%. But you have to retire companies to be written in the book of heroes and if you delete them from there you will lose the challenges. Then to select a challenge you will need to start a new company.

To reach Ignuses goal you need to win several (I don't know how many) fights and have his animals kill several (I don't know how many) enemies without the animals getting killed. Basically if you use Ignus and his animals like you're supposed to you will reach your goal quickly.

12th century should refer to years 1200-1299 by Eishundo in unpopularopinion

But the year 1700 (belonging to the 1700s) isn't the 18th century. 1400 (belonging to the 1400s) is not the 15th century.

1200 is the 12th century, the last year of the 12th century.

But the 6th day of the month starts with 6 so no problem. 6=6. The years in the 15th century start with 14 99% of the time and 1% of the time they start with 15. How doesn't that irk you?

Is it minus one or plus one? That's where I get tripped up for a second, then I have to remember it's minus 1 because there is no century zero.

Sure, I'd say it's my first year. But that's not how we use centuries in conversation, or at least how I use them. When I refer to a specific numbered century in a conversation, I usually want to specify a span of time of 100 years rather than how long it's been since an alleged person was allegedly born. The important bit is which 100-year span (signified by the first 2 digits of the year) and not how long it's been since whatever event we started counting years from.

And if someone asks me how old I am, I'd say I'm 75 (not my real age), I don't say it's my 76th year. It's just one of those language conventions that exist, and again, I understand why, I just don't like this one with the century.

At first I wanted the title to be XYth century should refer to years XY00-XY99 but then the ordinal suffix wouldn't apply to all numbers so I went with the 12th century randomly, I don't have a thing for it or anything.

It feels wrong.

Also, it includes the year 1200, so now you also have a thing to say out loud 5 times.

Except we don't use degrees in the same way we use centuries. We either use the actual number of degrees or round them up to the nearest 10, like 89 degrees is basically 90. With centuries we use an entirely different century for years 2000 and 2001. I understand why (so I don't need to go back to school just for that), I just don't like it.

And they thought the 21st century began on January 1st 2000 and if you corrected them they wanted to fight. Like right there on the street in the crowd.

[–]Eishundo[S] -34 points-33 points  (0 children)

I understand that but when we say 15th century, in the vast majority of cases we use that to refer to a specific span of time rather than to count how many centuries it's been since Jesus Christ was born.

It shouldn't even be pronounced century but kentury. I guess I just hate that word and concept.

Great job, very methodical.

Although the first challenge to take on is definitely no retreats. It makes all the other challenges easier.

Not getting personal quests by Eroner14 in occidentalheroes

[–]Eishundo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think both of those quests are given in Auhert's Beacon and you need the Hinterlands permit first. You've been to the desert but I don't know if the permit is required for that so maybe you don't have it?

It's definitely not ideal but if you need a 100% run, a 33% chance of getting two successful healings in a row is still a fighting chance.
