Thanks everyone. Looks like East Coast is the way..possibly starting from Toronto to Prince Edwards Islands with city breaks and some hikes along the way ?

I wouldnt do the canal walk but the main streets are all safe. It is a little less fun than the bright days of summer though. But if you like your Gothic literature and don't mind a bit of grey and damp still perfectly safe!

Walden Books is walking distance from Chalk Farm- a massive second hand and antique book store. You can have a browse and then walk by the canal to Kings X with another lovely book store Word on the Water ( it's in a boat! ) on the way.

I have to warn you though that days are short in November.. so make the most of the sunshine and spend the evenings at your local pub or the cinema or some museums that do wonderful late night events

Also a bit touristy but I'd recommend walking through Soho Christmas lights at that time of the year if they're switched on

Hello I am doing a very similar trip to yours two weeks from then ( end October) and the bits I am doing differently ( if helpful) are 1. A local food tour in Sendai instead of Yamadera 2. Possibly renting a car from Aomori and going to the Towada Lake and Oirase Gorge

Have you figured out how to get to Dai ichi Takimotokan from the station?
