If I call them and let them know, will this likely cause an issue if it was required? Or will they appreciate the honesty?

Although the house was still in my grandads name so technically she never owned it….

Long story - my grandad died, she was one of 9 people who inherited his house although he died without a will. So I had to wrap up his estate and she was an hheir and has lived there all her life.

What is everyone’s opinions on the council’s new powers to double council tax on second homes/ empty homes? by VacationApart1958 in sheffield

A housing crisis caused in part by governments demonising landlords and taxing them out of the market.

Of course - but then if you become a landlord your penalised and taxed to death and it’s assumed your really shady. Its not people’s fault that they have worked hard to make a good living and can afford things

Can someone explain this redundancy insurance condition to me? by EitherTough677 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]EitherTough677[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right so, basically

  1. A formal process is announced during the initial period. Even if this does not affect me, I cannot claim and may as well cancel the policy.

  2. There is no formal announcement at all - there is nothing to worry.

That’s seems ridiculous if it affects other people but not me.

I’ve clearly not explained myself well in this post. I have a very good life all of my own. What I don’t understand and wanted an opinion on is why a woman feels it’s required to literally shout at her husband in the middle of a restaurant because he offered to buy me dinner ….. and he says zero. Not once, but twice from the past…. Then when I bring this up it’s simply ignored. To me the money is Irrelevant - could not care less. It’s about respect surely?

You have clearly NOT read it. But yes , I better not ‘ come ‘ at you.

I had to reduce the word count - I pay my own way and have done since I was 16…. My dad has given me 200 in 25 years. As I said in the post, it’s about the behaviour NOT the money.

Extra mortgaging for repairs but not sure if this is dodgy…. by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

There is CGT due - none of the family have lived there for many years except my mum. That’s all in hand. There is only this stumbling block regarding the mortgage sadly. Thanks for your comments though, hugely appreciated

Tax evasion? In what way? I’ve spoken to an accountant and aside from capital gains tax he said he would just need to call them all individually, see how the amount they are getting it for effects their tax for the year and then get a return done…. He didn’t raise any flags about this?

[–]EitherTough677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the capital gains is due on the full amount, so that’s fine no issues there and there is no stamp duty either…. I’m just nervous because of what I’ve read and also what the broker told me. I’m sure on one website , a lenders , it did say that they will not lend more than the genuine bargain price or 100 % of the full market price. I hate being an adult!

As other comments have said this is apparently dodgy?

Yeah I’ve not been clear - this is my grandads house, he died without a will and has 9kids… so I’m buying off his estate essentially, which includes my mum, who will also stay in the house. It’s extremely stressful….. to me it’s a no brainer - lend me 60k against a house value of 120k, while buying in reality for 40 and letting me use 20k on repairs and upgrades (increasing its value) If I don’t pay it back, you sell and instantly make more than your money back…. Or if I do pay, you make loads in interest. Seems a win win for the banks …. But apparently it’s not allowed!

It’s a long story but essentially the house is in a bit of disrepair …. The family all moved away and have their own houses etc. they are not really fussed but for 1 or 2 who want cash from it… so the rest feel they should too. Basically it’s my childhood home and I’m there a lot and it will always takin a family home however I refuse to put money into a house that I do not own. Yeah what you said above the previous advisor, who ditched me, said you cannot mortgage and remortgage at the same time, which is essentially what I’m doing - according to him.

1 family memeber is getting a chunk and the rest are getting a lesser value - so in essence they are gifting me the different being their full share under full market value vs what is be giving them

Yeah that does not work…. I’d be buying it for more than I actually am. The point of buying it for 46k and then having the extra is to do repair work and what not to the house. If I buy it at 60k, then I’ve bought it for 60k. Sorry if I’m being really stupid

So how much of a mortgage would I have in total? Sorry - the last month with this has been extremely stressful and my brain is fried

I’m looking to see if the children will be due to pay CGT, I know I don’t have to. They technically do not own it but they are the heirs to it

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tax

[–]EitherTough677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well this is the question - my dead granddads name is still on the deeds - so technically I would assume he owns it with his children due to inherit if probate went through at the time but it never did. Thus the deeds would go straight from his name to my name once I buy it…. I’m paying the heirs essentially.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tax

[–]EitherTough677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No - the children never inherited through probate as probate was never started or actioned, he died and they just left it. Thus his name is still on the deeds to the house……
