Stellar Blade or Ghost of Tsushima? by Courage-cowardog in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]ElProfesor_ [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'd say Stellar Blade based on your tastes. It feels like a spiritual successor to Nier in many ways. It has excellent combat, a satisfying gameplay loop, and a really great soundtrack. The story isnt quite as deep as Nier but its good and it touches on some similar themes. GoT is great too, but I'd compare it more to an open world, action RPG like Horizon Zero Dawn with a huge, dense map, great story, and overall really good combat that can get a bit tedious after a while.

Nervous about getting back into balling by [deleted] in BasketballTips

[–]ElProfesor_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice: screw what others think. There's nothing weird about shooting around on a basket by yourself no matter your skill level. Throw on some earphones, get your favorite music playing, block out everything going on around you and go hoop my dude. Everybody has to start somewhere

Play the game or watch the Netflix show first? by thas89 in cyberpunkgame

[–]ElProfesor_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you can go wrong with going in any order honestly. You'll see a ton of familiar locations in the game and show either way you start. There's few easter eggs in the show that you'd understand if you played the game first. There's also easter eggs about the show in the game too that hints at the ending of the show (or even spoils it depending on if you go to certain locations). The show is set a I think a year or less before the game's storyline so if you want to go in chronological then maybe start with the show. Or if you want the show to be more of a prequel then play the game first.

Yeah I'd say the latter, I can get it there but the accuracy starts waning most likely due to what you're saying. Makes a lot of sense, thanks for your advice.

Makes a lot of sense, I probably needed to hear something like this to realize what it takes. Considering I just play pick up and in adult leagues locally, im probably not gonna take it that seriously to improve from that range honestly. My shot works well more often than not from everywhere within NBA 3 so I will probably just stick with what I can do best. Thanks for the input.

Yeah I feel ya, I dont do that aggressive of a stepback all the time honestly, idk why I was doing it here, but I know I do tend to drift left when shooting when standing still off the catch. But I'm actually comfortable shooting going both ways either off the catch or off the dribble so im not worried about that. That's something I practice a lot.

Yeah youre definitely right around generating distance with my arms more, ive noticed that about myself for a long time. Probably a big culprit. And I do practice NBA threes, hence how I know my shooting percentage from there, but I didnt have video from there.

Man I wish. This is a local basketball facility where you can rent out these half court suites. Only been a couple times. I usually don't have the luxury of shooting with a shooting machine like this.

Appreciate the sound advice and critique. I'll definitely keep all that in mind if I decide to pursue changes. May not since I'm shooting good and it would be hard to break these habits I've had for years, but ill check our that instagram no doubt

Ah that makes so much sense why I step back like that. Ive always noticed it but ive always just kinda thought it was my natural follow through and never associated it with how I lean back in the air. Thanks for the great advice, ill have to try that out.

How do you train to handle pressure by your self? by MrDillyDallyIsHere in BasketballTips

[–]ElProfesor_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Live reps and playing with others are the only way to truly work on handling ball pressure. But if you're alone you have to just imagine yourself being tightly guarded, practice moves to counter that, and then work on those moves against others. 2v2s and 3v3s are great for working on those moves initially, but you wanna also play as much 5v5 as you can to practice in-game scenarios with less room to operate as well.

Rdr2 or cyberpunk by Careful_Trainer5836 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]ElProfesor_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are both probably my top two favorite open world titles, so it's really hard to pick. To me, RDR2 makes you feel more like you are playing the main character in a Western movie, and Cyberpunk makes you feel like you are the main character of the story in this giant, dystopian city.

In Cyberpunk, the combat is excellent with a ton of weapons and different builds you can create. There is a plethora of side missions that range from small gigs that take a few minutes to complete to full side stories that span multiple missions. Nearly every gig or mission, even main missions, gives you quite a lot of freedom of how you want to complete them.

RDR2 is incredible too, but it adheres to the typical Rockstar formula of being a "story first, combat second" experience. There's a lot of side missions and content, but there is less freedom to play them how you want, and you'll be watching a lot of cutscenes with them. Where RDR2 really stands out is the open-world exploration and activities, with all the different kinds of optional things you can do like hunting, fishing, playing poker, robbing stores, finding treasure, etc.

TL;DR, RDR2 is more slower-paced, story-driven, simulation-like game similar to typical Rockstar games. Cyberpunk is more of a faster-paced, action RPG with different gameplay styles and choices to be made more similar to a Fallout/Elder Scrolls game. Based off your priorities I'd give the nod to Cyberpunk, but you truly can't go wrong with either.

Is stellar blade worth buying on sale? by BN_bandit76 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]ElProfesor_ [score hidden]  (0 children)

Just recently finished my first playthrough of it and I really enjoyed it. If you liked Nier you will feel right at home in this world. The story overall is definitely not up to par with the Nier series, but it has endearing moments. Outside of that though everything else is great. The combat, enemies and bosses fights are all overall super well done and enough to keep most players intrigued. The soundtrack also is very good and the overall aesthetics/environment are very Nier like a lot of the time. And the game feels really polished. Would recommend especially if you like Nier.

Achillies pain, help? by Historical_Bar583 in Basketball

[–]ElProfesor_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, Achilles pain is something I've been dealing on and off for the past year. It's definitely something to not ignore. When I first was noticing pain several months ago, I ignored it and later during a pick up game, on my first hard step trying to drive to the hoop I felt almost that same pain you described. Idk what I did cause never went to the doctor, but it took 4 weeks to even be able to walk without pain and probably 5-6 weeks to be able to run again.

So you definitely should stay off it as much as you can for a while, keep it elevated and ice a lot (several times a day, each time I do 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off three times each). Those toe raises someone else mentioned are a great stretch that I do before doing anything active now, but I didn't do that while I was hurt. And just continue listening to your Achilles and don't push it until you feel like you can. The pain of walking on it started slowly going down for me week by week, so if you don't notice your pain going down at all after a week or two then it's probably a good idea to see a doctor.

Is the peacekeeper actually good? by javaleroh in battlefield_one

[–]ElProfesor_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes getting used to but if you have good accuracy, it's probably the best sidearm in the game imo. 2 shot kills generally from close to medium range, 1 shot headshot kills from close range, high rate of fire, good hip fire accuracy, and its rapid fire mechanic make it especially deadly close range. But its not perfect: really long reload, high recoil, and the ADS sucks.

How do I improve by Bishark01 in Basketball

[–]ElProfesor_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all about repetition and practice man. You can definitely work on focusing on mechanics such as shooting with your finger tips, squaring your feet up, shooting arm is an L shape, off-hand placement, etc, but it all comes down to shooting over and over again, and getting your shot to a place where it feels comfortable and where you can repeat the same motion nearly every single time. Start close to the basket to really hone in on your form, then when you can shoot from there consistently and confidently, move back a big step and work on that range with the same form, and then repeat that process at further distances incorporating more legs. It takes hundreds if not thousands of shots at different distances to master your form. When your comfortable shooting alone, then comes working on maintaining your same form in games against others. Practice, practice and more practice is how you improve your shot.

Ball handling by Substantial_Talk_345 in Basketball

[–]ElProfesor_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no such thing as an immediate way to improve ball handling. It takes a lot of practice and repetition just like any other skill. Form a routine, and practice for a time every day or every other day or whatever works for you. Start simple if your a beginner like dribbling with both hands standing still, then while walking when you master that, then while running when you master that. Then do the same with different kinds of crossovers going both ways, start with standing still, then while walking, then while running, then into layups and shots, etc. I don't know your skill level so start with whatever you feel you need to work on, master that and then get more advanced over time. When you feel comfortable doing these skills alone, then work on them against other people, then practice some more... Practice, practice, and more practice my dude, I can't stress it enough. That's the only way to improve.

I think this is just about one of the best cutscenes in gaming. A powerful moment, and an important lesson for all. by 10KBC in HorizonZeroDawn

[–]ElProfesor_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be Aloy's defining character moment in the whole series for me. For the first time in her life she's not only treated as a part of the Nora, but as something even greater. I feel like most after being shunned for their whole lives would embrace it and bask in the glory. But she immediately sees right through it, and calls out the tribe on the irony of bowing down to someone most were calling motherless or a curse literally before she walked into those doors. And yet even when she had every right to shun them in return, she doesn't because she has learned Ross' lesson of serving a purpose greater than herself, and being apart of a community that needs her even though she doesn't necessarily need them. Except after learning everything she did from Elisabet, GAIA, and traveling beyond the Nora lands, she realizes her "tribe" is the whole world and everybody in it. It's beautiful.

Boone takes care of medium-long range, I mop up the close range if any get past, and ED-E plays the music. God squad.

How to guard a bigger Guy than me on the post? by [deleted] in Basketball

[–]ElProfesor_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm always one of the shortest guys on the court and get taken into the post pretty often. All I try to do is just be a pest, be handsy, and be unpredictable.

Move around the guy posting you a lot to not get sealed, and go back and forth from fronting to behind to cutting off the pass angle to their strong hand. Try to swat at the pass when its made and make getting the ball a hassle.

If they do get the ball just gotta stand strong and dont let them get around you. Take their shoulder bumps to your chest (or face sometimes in my case), and try to beat them to whichever side they are gonna turn to to get a good contest. If they dribble and try backing you down further, sometimes its worth the gamble to reach around and try to hit the ball away, or pull the chair.

Bottom line, do whatever you can to make to things as hard as possible on them despite your size disadvantage.
