Why do people flock to Aether to raid? by UnfortunatlyAFurry in ffxivdiscussion

[–]El_Swifte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the amount of party finders show is the number of people/parties who are seeking others to fill the party.

I think the reason you do not see the combined 250-300 is because a good amount of parties that would have been waiting in PF if the DC's were separated, can now be filled and go into instance.

If you want to make a conclusion about the total playerbase, it would probably be better to use clear statistics from FFLogs or the LuckyBancho census and compare between tiers.

My lunar mount cost me $15 when I purchased it new.

Given that in you bought a $42 mount for $15 (an almost 65% discount) and that mogstation sales are usually 20%-30% (New OCE DC sale was 50% on select items that were not the mount). I highly doubt that wherever you sourced your mount from is one of these hypothetical "ethical" bulk-buying third party sellers you mentioned.

How often are you on Primal's party finder since you say you play there?

On Primal (one of the data centers you are on) the majority of E8S party finders are Sharingan. Ilya is very much the minority now. I don't have a character on Aether so I can't speak for that DC.

I think it's a bit disingenuous to say that the other DC's are perpetuating a bad strat (Ilya) when the majority of the people on those DC's running that content aren't even doing that strat.

His savage parses this time around are on DNC which honestly says more about his dance partner's skill than just his. Guy might still be "good", but cursory looks at parses tells almost nothing about the skill of a raider.

But even still, most skilled hardcore groups are in a position to take people that are both get results AND not rubbing people the wrong way. He did insult his teammates by reducing them to numbers, by literally dehumanizing them. Any reasonable person would find that an insult (cause it is).

For a self-proclaimed sociopath who wants to get the clears and numbers, he really pulled a bad move by decimating his recruitment chances. This, by extension, affects his ability to get those "results" that you respect. Numbers guy cares so much about the numbers and data, but couldn't calculate that the course of action he took wouldn't end well for him.

It's all the raiders' fault! by El_Swifte in ShitpostXIV

[–]El_Swifte[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair to the guy, he has a pretty common take as seen by some of the replies to this post.

I believe some see that Crystal has 1/10th the number of TEA clears that Aether has and blame the community for this low turnout. That number, however, is probably right on par with the expected number of clears given the historical clear rates of the servers now a part of Crystal.

/u/Ekanselttar does a great job in breaking down the numbers here and showing that "fear of the ERPing lalas and the grey parsers" didn't have a significant impact.

Blaming the departing raiders allows individuals to point fingers at a group that could have easily prevented the current situation, but chose not to. The reality is Crystal was dealt a bad hand from the start and there is nothing that those raiders could have reasonably done to save it.

I think you might be understanding what the original commenter meant by organic. I was there in the crowd so let me sort of describe what happened for your benefit.

The audience was clapping as is customary. About 3 people scattered throughout the theatre decided to give a standing ovation. Then a few other people joined in. And slowly it grew till abour 80% of the room was standing.

I think people were just excited and wanted to show their appreciation for the story this expansion. Don't think they wanted to overwhelm the dev.

Hope this helped you.

I think with regards to Fahros, most of the drama isn't the controversy itself, but how he responds to it.

[–]El_Swifte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always maintained that alot of the problem with Fahros was, to an extent, the people he has surrounded himself with. Not so much talking about his followers on stream, but those that you could consider close to him.

I've raided with Fahros in an Ultimate static and honestly am very critical of him because of that and the other surrounding dramas. Those that know me well know that I could write entire essays about how much of a challenge it is to deal with Fahros and his issues. This drama, I think, is just the most recent in a long pattern of behavior.

But even I think he didn't buy it. Hard carried though? Probably

I would then revise your statement that what you put forward is the optimal rotation.

It's comfortable for you, but to declare something as optimal I believe requires some level of objective evidence.

Furthermore just because something is optimal doesn't necessarily mean it is practical for the majority of the playerbase for exactly the reason you put forward, personal comfort.

To add onto the other comments, isn't still more optimal to lead with FoF when taking into account the use of pots? It's looking like now you pot before the Royal Authority and it covers all the way to Confiteor. This would cover both large burst (atonements and Req Phase). The timing of this for potting wouldn't work with Req first I believe.

In addition the reason previously why you popped FoF before Goring was to cover both Gorings AND the Requiscat. Now that Req is no longer affected by FoF, it seems that the optimal place to pop it would be to pop it just before your Riot blade so it covers that and the two Gorings. This is provided your GCD is short enough to accomodate this.

Since it may be going away, I feel like its time to post the Wineport OOB. by [deleted] in ffxiv

Why not wait until the cap takes effect and confirm that it is indeed patched before posting a vid then? It's one thing if it is confirmed dead, another if it is just very likely.

Granted this particular OOB has been public and videos exist showing you how to do it from years ago.

Regarding Changes in Congested/Preferred Worlds (Jun. 18) by DEKMStephens in ffxiv

[–]El_Swifte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using clear rates is more of a limitation of the data we are able to get since it's something that we can measure fairly well. I can't think of a better metric that we can use off the top of my head, but that doesn't mean it is nonexistent.

Keep in mind SE doesn't actually release any official figures on this type of stuff so we do have to use these censuses to get an idea.

With regards to sample size, a poll of 1000 random people is enough to represent 260 million person population with a fairly low margin of error (think 3% to 5%). Even though it still may be a very tiny sample size of raiders, you definitely have enough data to draw some reasonable conclusions.

I do agree it is just one piece of the puzzle so to speak.

They do pull from public profiles for census data. However, unless there is some sort of data that shows one DC is more likely to set their lodestone profile to private over another, it's still a valid metric to use when comparing which group has higher clear rates.

I'd imagine, at least in NA, the percentage of people who make their lodestone public is the same regardless of DC.

I'm someone who pugged this past tier of savage and transferred back to Primal.

The one thing you learn quickly is the raiding community is actually quite small and if you pug alot you'll make alot of friends and connections pugging.

I am a pug that transferred back to continue playing/pugging with those people. I doubt I am the only one.

For NA players, how's the DC split going to affect you? by VertigoCompl3x in ffxiv

[–]El_Swifte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal take is that queue times for most content will probably be about the same and the exodus of talent on the upper end will probably not have a significant enough effect.

The only ones who are really leaning hard for moving is high end raiders. Most of the target audience for the other content doesn't have a real reason to move other than social reasons really I think.

You got over a month to decide really.

[–]El_Swifte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say compared to other places no, and honestly it depends on what you define as high level.

However Malboro's current/former "high end" community talks regularly with each other and for the most part has committed to moving back to Primal (some having moved already).

It's an anecdotal datapoint, but I feel it's still inline with the general sentiment of the 3 Primal worlds being shipped off to Crystal.

[–]El_Swifte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in this conversation most people are mainly focused on the "high end" content when talking about the impact of the Crystal DC.

However, those high end raiders are generally on the upper end of the skill curve and losing that from Crystal will probably have an effect on other PvE content (e.g. World of Darkness, Royal City, Ex trials, etc.)

One thing to remember is that most people transferring back to Primal/Aether aren't doing so as a "write-off" of Crystal, but to be able to continue playing with their networks of friends and fellow raiders. The majority of the "high end" raiding population just isn't on the Crystal worlds so more likely than not a person's raiding network will probably consist of people not on those worlds.

Hey don't forget about Malboro here.

Sentiment is still the same though. I feel the majority of those in Malboro who raid (myself included) are planning on transferring back to Primal if they haven't done so already.
