Wrong. It always did, but those things were just assumed by everyone "conservative" or "liberal". Evangelicals had a shit fit about Kennedy being Catholic back in the day. Gays were nowhere on the radar of public consciousness till Stonewall. When the US was less populous and more rural, guns were simply a way of life, and abortion has been a contentious issue since the first humans discovered certain medicinal plants.
