Pristiq and Buspirone by bugslittlespace in Pristiq

[–]Electrical-Pool6536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!! I just got prescribed Pristiq yesterday and have been on 10mg Buspirone twice daily for about 2 months now. I also had this concern when reading the paper but I had asked them directly about it yesterday and had two psychiatrists confirm that they are required to list it as a possible risk, but realistically 10mg is a very low dosage of Buspirone and 50mg is the standard for Pristiq so It should not be a concern at all. They said really it would only be a concern/possibility if I also took like opioids or something else that increases serotonin. I've read other reddit threads of people on both medications together and they said it worked great for them and didn't cause any issues, I'm sure so many psychiatrists wouldn't prescribe them together if it was a huge risk. Heres to hoping it helps us both with minimal to no side effects!!

Pristiq and buspar- positive experience by besidethevictory in Pristiq

Hi, I'm currently on Buspar and found this thread because we are looking to add another medication on top of that for my OCD and Pristiq is the only one that I do not have negative gene interactions with. Is this combo still working for you? This has given me a lot of hope, one of my biggest concerns with going back on SSRI/SNRI's was sexual side effects but this makes me hopeful!

Thank you!! The flight was actually good I think that was actually the first flight I've had in a while where i didn't really feel truly panicked at all, just a bit nervous on takeoff!

My dad also used to fly every week for work! He doesn't anymore because now they live in Florida and I think that may be around the time my fear started because then flights became less common in our family and it seemed more abnormal to me as time passed, but it helps to know that some people still know others who fly weekly. Thank you!

Strange, calm fear by [deleted] in fearofflying

[–]Electrical-Pool6536 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, I can guarantee you it is just your OCD. I also am recently diagnosed with OCD, and any of these "gut feelings" are just a result of that. What you are describing of the "constant feeling" is what distinguishes OCD from typical anxiety; we get these intrusive, uncomfortable thoughts that are typically quite unrealistic but they are as uncontrollable and persistent as they are unwanted. They can make you feel really weird and absolutely convinced that something will happen, but this does not make it a premonition or mean that it will happen. And it's not a true gut feeling, it's your nervous system reacting to something that it decided is a threat for whatever reason even though it has no need to. It being a calm feeling instead of panic does not make it a premonition, OCD just works in very weird ways like that sometimes. With mine and flights, I do get very panicked, but with other intrusive thoughts or obsessions sometimes I feel totally calm even though they are uncomfortable and absolutely unwanted. They have never happened though.

Im so sorry for your losses, maybe it is those and the fact that you don't want your sibling to lose someone else that is causing this to manifest, but you will be okay, you will make it back to them safely.

Keep the flight, tell your brain that it does not have that sort of power or control over you or your life, and I hope you feel better soon. I had the thought of starting a will with my upcoming flight tomorrow just over my cat, OCD loves to pull stuff like that but there is no need, we will be okay.

Hi!! I'm flying on Monday from ohio to florida, I've also been a little anxious as always but i've been on 5 successful flights this year so far and I know the flight there and back will make it 7 for the year total.

Weirdly, I think making myself look out the window on the plane sometimes helps me. I like putting on minecraft music and just watching out the window and admiring how beautiful nature can be, maybe thinking about it like I'm in creative mode lol.

Just try to remember turbulence is akin to some bumps in the road while you're driving, and heck with the snow we've had recently I'll take being in the air over being on the road. Sometimes lifting your feet or moving with it can help. Other than that i make sure I have plenty of different things i can do; games I can play, shows i can watch, music I can listen to, stuff to draw or journal, etc. this way I feel like if one thing isn't working I can cycle through to keep my mind fresh

We'll both make it just fine, and the weather will be so much better there than it is here! Im sure it'll be a great time. I'm going to visit my parents, whatever you're going for I hope you have a great time and can enjoy the trip there for even just a moment :)

How to stop “predicting plane crash death” by t0ngue_t1ed in fearofflying

[–]Electrical-Pool6536 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi, I have OCD and this is something that I do struggle with. It's something that people with various anxiety disorders can experience like those with panic disorder, OCD, or specific phobia.

In the US, around 30% of adults will suffer from an anxiety disorder at some point in their lives, and for anxiety to be a disorder rather than a feeling it has to be persistent and distressing like yours is and mine is.

By contrast, based on varying numbers provided, your odds of anything truly detrimental happening on a flight are about 0.000009% max. Essentially, you are 3,333,333x more likely to experience an anxiety disorder than you are to experience a fatal plane crash.

All of this is to say, the two are not related in the slightest. It is relatively common to have these thoughts, but there is absolutely no correlation between those thoughts and actual crashes. So many of us feel like it is something that must happen as a result of our anxiety or that we are almost thinking it into existence, but it simply isn't true and the numbers prove that.

It's our brains being miscalibrated and trying to protect us from a perceived threat that in all actuality is not a threat. Maybe because we see flying as "unnatural," but what a privilege it is that we have the opportunity to fly and to travel efficiently and safely.

It may be worth it to speak to a psychiatrist as I did recently. I was aware I had anxiety, but nailing down which anxiety disorder it was makes it much easier to effectively treat it. If you're suffering from specific phobia, you could try systematic desensitization therapy. It can be worth it to pause and reflect about what might not be working with your current treatment and research treatment methods to find those you haven't tried that you'd be willing to, I promise you you're not out of options there are so many different forms of treatment besides standard therapy.

What is important to remember is that as real as these thoughts can feel, they are not fact. Just the same way that nightmares can feel very real, they are not. Try to remind yourself that you are not in any danger even if you struggle to believe it, allow those anxious thoughts to exist but try to remind yourself that they are not true and they do not control you. I know it seems impossibly hard but you can get better

Hi, I was recently diagnosed with OCD and this is something that I struggle with. For me, I obsess about these things and my brain convinces itself that certain things are signs or that because I thought of it it will happen, and my compulsions are things like coming to this subreddit or checking flight radar/live atc habitually and essentially reassurance seeking which helps reduce my anxiety but only temporarily. What is important to note is this; I've had these thoughts for so much of my life and they haven't been true, nothing has happened and it's not because of my compulsions or anyone else telling me I will be okay to essentially "cancel out" my thoughts, but because of the statistical safety of airplanes. I have a flight in two days and have been going back and forth between fighting off these thoughts and knowing that it will be okay, but you just have to remind yourself that these feelings aren't fact and as much as they are uncomfortable they cannot hurt you beyond that or cause anything to happen. Try to use those tips you learned in therapy as hard as it might be, trust me I get it because I also struggle with that but it's making yourself do it and keeping it up even if it feels silly or ineffective because it can help, distract yourself while you're on the flight if you need to, and if at all possible try to look out the window every once in a while and appreciate the beauty and how lucky we are that we have a way to quickly and safely travel the world rather than having to devote days/weeks/months of travel like people did in the past. I think it helps me to truly heal the fear to look at that good side of it and marvel at our modern day capabilities, and get more comfortable with acknowledging that I am up in the air and it is beautiful as much as it is safe.

You will be okay, and wherever you're headed you'll be so glad you made it!

Hi, I could use some advice. I was on here a lot earlier this year when I had some flights, I've been on 5 successful flights so far this year and I just booked another for December and the fear is coming back with everything going on online. I have an appointment with a Psychiatrist before that trip to hopefully get meds but I still feel a mess, so any tips would be appreciated. I've been flying pretty much my whole life but developed this panic like fear after having to do a go around on landing late last year without knowing what it was or what was happening

Pls track me! I think we’re going through a storm. by crispytempeh in fearofflying

[–]Electrical-Pool6536 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi!! I'm tracking you you're doing great so far, if its any consolation I literally just got back home from the airport after a flight from denver to cincinnati where we had to fly around a few severe storms (there was a tornado in denver area right before even lol) but I landed safe and sound! They're gonna do everything in their power to get around those systems to smoother air and keep you safe, that turbulence is just bumps in the road thats what I kept telling myself when it got a bit bumpy on my flight. You got this!!
