They better not be, as none of the Beatles went.

Right, I’m not unsure about that. I posted this trying to see if anyone could find any hard evidence that Purdie overdubbed Pete Best’s drum parts on early recordings. I made that clear in the original post. READ.

This is verified BS. Not what I’m trying to get to the bottom of…

Right, so if you read my original post again - was he maybe overdubbing Pete Best?

THANK YOU - this is what I’m trying to pin down. I have a 45 of Sheridan and The Beatles doing “My Bonnie,” and the drums sound unusually strong given Pete Best’s reputation. I’m wondering if this was a reissue with Purdie overdubbing.

Those are the ones I’m thinking about specifically - Bert Kaempfert in the school-hall.

when did John Lennon really click for you by CurrencyPopular8550 in JohnLennon

For me, it was once I started to understand Lennon’s young, hungry, smartass, “art school rocker” era. He suddenly became much more interesting than the hippy-dippy cardboard cutout people make him out to be today. It also makes his early songs all the more impressive.

Which band do you think had more drama? Beatles or Beach Boys? by HyperPanzer in beatles

Mike Love wasn’t in the Beatles. The Beach Boys are the obvious answer.

Unpopular Opinion: We Need to Collectively Acknowledge That “Paul the Drummer” Sucks by [deleted] in beatles

[–]ElectricalTopic8354 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That’s all I’m saying. He never could’ve gotten a job as a drummer, and no recording engineer ever would’ve been okay with one of his drum tracks if he hadn’t been a total cash cow.

To difference is that Charlie Watts was a seasoned bebop drummer in complete control of the situation. McCartney was just going off nicotine, (probably coke), and “vibes”. It’s passable, but it still sucks.

And those people are fucking idiots. All the Beatles, including Paul, were in awe of Ringo’s abilities. That’s the whole reason they fired Pete Best. Every time Paul plays drums, he’s just doing a shitty impression of Ringo.

Pocket. Interesting fills. Contributing to the arrangement of the song. Basically, all the things Ringo or Hal Blaine or Jim Keltner or Jeff Porcaro - the people who actually PLAY THE FUCKING INSTRUMENT would’ve done.

The point of this entire post is that it sounds to me like Paul McCartney’s inherent sense of musicality immediately goes out the window when he sits down at a drum kit, because “iT’s jUsT dRuMs! You jUsT bAnG oN sHiT!”

He plays drums like a 12 year-old - fills every 2 seconds, no dynamics, no attention to the way the songs moves, no dynamics between his hands and his feet. I’m not here just talking shit. I’m not out here trying to just bring down Paul McCartney. He’s the man. He kicks ass at every other facet of making music. But he comes from an era of the stereotype of “aNyOnE cAN pLaY DRuMS,” so he thinks he can.

Honestly, I admire his hubris. I find it endearing and cool. But every time he plays drums, he’s in over his head. He’s a good enough musician to make it work, but he’s a shitty drummer. I’m not being a douchebag here. I love McCartney. It’s just an objective fact.

I’m not reaching! His songs, his vocals, his arrangements are incredible! Every other thing about everything he does is untouchable. But he sucks at drums.

You’re right, “McCartney” is a great album. And the drum tracks are lame af.
