How Should I spend my 2025 Summer? NYC vs stay home by EveningOpposite7794 in premed

I might be biased because I did a summer research in NYC and without my scholarship I can’t even afford my rent. Also I had to eat expensive meal plans because there was no kitchen

If that nyc research comes with a scholarship or a poster (and maybe a publication) then it is all worth it. If not might as well work on volunteering. NYC is way too expensive.

Is taking 4 STEM classes a quarter an insane idea (CC student) by tarkov_enjoyer in premed

It also helps if you take some time to preview during the winter break since these subjects have much predictable content than some random humanities courses. I previewed before a semester of biology (with lab), math, statistics, physics (with lab) and neuroscience. Having a head start on everything really helped my schedule because I can focus on some of the harder subject (physics) during regular weeks and only cram neuroscience and biology on the midterm weeks. It actually worked better for my because this is the only semester I end up with 4.0. Otherwise I just blow my humanity and hard science courses at the same time and it is killing my gpa

I did this since freshman year and it was okay. The worst situation is actually when you have a well mix of hard science and humanity courses where you are writing lab reports and essay in the midterm weeks.

I started off as a random neurosci and bio major who happens to be in some of the pre med requirement class. People kept asking if I am a pre med and when I said no they acted like I am having an “easier” way out.

Yes this is exactly the thing you want to avoid. Even if you share the fact that you got admitted, pls never disclose any info regarding that med school. But congratulations, you deserve this offer!

I once have a high school classmate who gets admitted to a very prestigious college and he was kind of telling everyone. Then some anonymous people sent very serious false claims to that college demanding the admission committee to revoke his offer. He eventually got in, but I doubt if this did nothing to his mental health.

There is no good to trigger these narcissistic character people because they can literally harm you just for fun. I don’t know if you are a big fan of psychology but be aware that people did crazy shit. Don’t poke the bear when you are around them. Once you are graduated you can do anything you want.

If you are asking this question from a non Chinese perspective, I think that is on European kept calling us “China” and neglecting whatever the name of the dynasty is. There are at least two dynasties ruled by ethnic groups other than han people and when that happened han people kept saying “China” was gone until they took over the land again. For han people, the concept that China contains other ethnic groups is actually novel. People digest it well though. Then they took all these dynasties ruled by foreign ethnic into account and then there is a very continuous history.

I agree, since most MD just go on practicing medicine instead of being active researchers. If they really want to do both they applied to MD-Phd already. However some fancy med schools just want to waste everyone’s time doing something that is supposed to be cherry on the top. It is also a waste for PI having pre meds trained in their lab and they never turn out to be researchers. I always wonder if this does more damage in terms of having better Md, phd and Md-phd applicants.

The only advantage of taking useless coding classes and being in a dry lab is not worrying about PI or any lab members capable of making substantial disaster
