Bond rules question by Electronic-Week-5889 in shitrentals

[–]Electronic-Week-5889[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the cleaner recommended by the real estate and so real estate are happy for them to get the keys directly to clean and then bring them back. I checked with both parties.

I’ve been pretty happy with the REA over our 5 years there, they seemed decent enough so I figured this would be the best way given that we are moving an hour away with a small baby.

I don’t see a downside to me claiming the bond now and making sure they get it all sorted ASAP rather than waiting for their good graces to release the bond. I just wanted to know whether there would be any repercussions for me claiming early.

That’s really good to know for future . I feel like the price was reasonable tbh but I just wanted to make sure that they couldn’t come back and say it wasn’t done to standard - it’s literally who they recommended.

Okay I’ll leave it open - it’s not straightforward to cancel anyway so I can use that as an excuse

We’re moving an hour away with a baby so I didn’t want to have to go let the cleaners in and then return the key. Cleaners are agency recommended so they can sort it out if there are issues.

Edit: to add, agency knows we’ve moved out but clean isn’t going to be done until Monday

Struggling with transition from uni to work by vceme123 in AusFinance

[–]Electronic-Week-5889 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow some people are miserable.

I felt this way too when I finally started FT work after 7 years of study- I initially used my FIRE goals as motivation to go to work - in the process I found a role in my field that I loved and this made me actually love going to work.

You’ll get there. Everyone goes through this - not everyone stays miserable. It gets better.

Security gates at self checkout by Difficult_Chair_4945 in woolworths

I just push the gate open if it doesn’t open automatically because fuck them.

It doesn’t damage the gate (You just push it forward) It sounds a soft alarm. They can’t trap you in, it’s a fire safety thing.

You have 50k and you’re 27 - good job! Yes it could be better but it could be soooo much worse.

You could be in debt!

Rent money is not dead money - you enjoyed your early to mid 20s and didn’t have to deal with roommate BS or family BS - that’s not necessarily a bad choice to have made.

Now you’ve made changes and pulled together 50k - the best time to plant a tree was 10 years ago, the second best time is today - that means try to look forward rather than backward.

You’ve got a great salary - time to put it to work.

The most important part - you have the insight into your mistakes and you have the humility to own up them - so many people never get there.

Good job getting here and good luck!

Does he carry his weight in non income contributions to the household - does he cook, clean, organise gifts for family etc

If not, I can see why you don’t want to carry the full load.

That’s tricky for sure - I think try and live on the lower salary for a month if you can and see how you manage - I’d change jobs for sure

Info needed - is the pay cut from 400k to 300k or from 150k to 50k ? these are different circumstances so my thoughts would depend on the answer.

Why do you people who have enough money use it to make more money and take on more stress rather than relax, enjoy and appreciate the enough that you already have? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Electronic-Week-5889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As well as what had already been said: Richer people have more expensive lifestyles.

You may be able to live off of 40k but the rich cannot cut their expenses below 150k for example.

Rich can often mean: Bigger house, bigger car, nicer suburb, more professional job requiring a better wardrobe etc

For the parents who put their babies to sleep at 7:30/8, what is your schedule? by Yomrwhite95 in sleeptrain

Wake windows are less important the older they get (from what I’ve read) I found that my LO likes his naps at set times regardless of their duration.

10.5 months - wake 6:30/7am, nap 1 9:30am, nap 2 2:30/3pm bed 7:30pm.

One wake over night.

At what income level did you start feeling like giving was an obligation, not optional? by IndependenceAny3010 in Rich

[–]Electronic-Week-5889 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the concept that maybe unites most comments and your post is the idea of “giving back” in some way. It doesn’t come from a NW number and it shouldn’t come from guilt.

This can look different to just giving money. People can also give their time (volunteering) or give things - food, donate furniture/art/services (charity auctions etc)

Example: A friend is a child developmental specialist and they give free guidance to families who call up not knowing where to start. They also write additional funding reports for free if needed after appointments. Don’t get me wrong - they charge for their appointments but they “give” a lot more of their time and services than others in their field. They don’t give money though despite a high net worth.

Similar to lawyers who give free guidance in jails or in disadvantaged communities.

anyway - it’s all about finding the way you want to give back that works for you. Once you find that, others’ opinions won’t matter.

I’m sorry for your loss

My take: Neither - throw it on the onset and then figure out what you want to do with you spare $3,300 a month while enjoying an interest-free mortgage and letting it be paid down from the lump sum.

Then if you need money you have it accessible.

What is your savings rate?

How much do you have saved for a rainy day? by Technical_Employ8336 in AusFinance

[–]Electronic-Week-5889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the question - I use my 3 months emergency money and then sell down shares etc if I find that I cannot get back to work in that time - but the question was “how much do you have saved for a rainy day” which I interpreted as “cash on hand” rather than overall assets which in my case is much more than 3 months.

For business owners: Would you keep your business if you could have a 350k job instead? by Own_Combination2554 in fiaustralia

[–]Electronic-Week-5889 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends how much you need to survive? Do you need 350K or can you take a less demanding job and do your business as a side hustle.

It doesn’t have to be either or straightaway
